Learn how to make dessert-in-a-jar gifts for friends and coworkers. A delicious homemade present that is perfect for holiday gift-giving.
I love holiday desserts!
Okay, I love desserts anytime but my love seems to really deepen at Christmas time.
Although it can be hard because I have so many dessert recipes I want to make!
That is where neighbors and friends come in - there is no way I can eat all of the yumminess on my own. I make some for friends and neighbors, and then I get a portion for myself too. It's genius!
One dessert recipe that I love to make as neighbor gifts is my Rocky Road Pudding in a Jar gift idea. Not only is it cute and easy to give - but super tasty!
Ingredients You'll Need to Create this Project/Recipe:
- 1 ½ cups Crushed Graham Crackers
- ½ cup of softened Butter
- 4 tablespoons Powdered Sugar
- 1 small box of Instant Chocolate Pudding
- 2 cups of Milk
- Mini Marshmallows
- 4oz Cool Whip
- Chocolate Chips
- Coconut Flakes
- Half Pint Mason Jars
Rocky Road Pudding Dessert in a Jar:
The first thing we want to do is prepare our pudding. simply follow the directions on the side of the box for the 5-minute pudding. Place in fridge.
Next, we will make the graham cracker crust.
Crush graham crackers by placing them in a Ziploc bag and rolling over them with a rolling pin.
In a bowl, combine graham cracker crumbs, softened butter, and powdered sugar.
Your Jell-O Chocolate pudding should now be set up so you can pull it out of the fridge. Gently fold ½ of the container of cool whip.
Now all of our ingredients are ready and we can begin layering everything into the jars.
Layering Order:
- Graham Cracker Crust
- Pudding
- Coconut Flakes
- Chocolate Chips
- Mini Marshmallows
- Repeat
I don't measure these out, just add a heaping spoonful or two of each layer. Watch the side of the jar as you are adding the different ingredients. You want to be able to ee the different layers.
After two layers the jar should be full - if not add a few more marshmallows.
Once everything is put together put the lid on and add a cute Christmas tag.
Store in your fridge until you are ready to hand them out.
Adding the Tag:
I also wanted to point out that this is a great gift any time of year, simply change out the tag and you are all set!
For the Christmas tag, I bought some adhesive tags at Walmart, placed them on white cardstock, cut them out, and inked the edges with black ink.
Punch a hole in the tag and tie it onto the dessert jar with a red ribbon. These mason jar gifts look so cute when all put together and it is so easy!
This is also perfect to keep in your fridge for someone who comes over with a yummy treat that you may have not expected. Run to your fridge, grab your Rocky Road Pudding in a Jar and they will think you are so thoughtful!!
Our Baking Essential List
- We use Glass Baking Dishes for baking casseroles. I especially like the dishes with lids because leftovers can be transferred straight to the fridge.
- Silicone Kitchenware is my favorite because they don't scratch my cookware and is easy to clean!
- A Glass Cutting Board is a must to prepare all of those ingredients. We even keep ours on our counter at all times.
- This Knife Set will also become your favorite! The knives cut beautifully, and the hollow design prevents food from sticking to the blade.

Oh boy, that sounds really good. I usually make candy, which I did all day today, and cookies for neighbor gifts. I really like this idea though.
