Unboxing the xTool M1 Ultra:
Now let's get to the fun part, the unboxing!
The shipping box is quite large, but everything is packed tightly.
I took pictures as I unboxed so you could see for yourself.
At the top of the box is a layer of styrofoam that holds the owner's manual and the sample material pack.
Remove that top layer of styrofoam, and you can see the machine wrapped in plastic with more styrofoam inside.
I lifted the machine from the box and placed it on my counter.
The machine only weighs 26 pounds, but when unboxing it weighs more because of the supplies packed inside.
Once the machine is out of the box, remove the plastic wrapping. This is my favorite part, it is so satisfying!
Packed inside the machine you will find the following pieces:
- Laser Module
- Smoke Exhaust Module
- USB Cable
- Power Cable and Adapter
- Fine Point Blade
- 8 Fine Point Pens
- Pen Holder
- 4 Triangular Prism Holders
- 10 Triangular Prisms
- LightGrip Cutting Mat
- Fabric Grip Cutting Mat
- 8 Smoke Filters
- 2 Keys
- Grease
- 2 Len Mounts (spares)
- Lens Mount Rotating Piece
- Screw Driver
- Mult Function Carriage
- Cutting Blade
xTool M1 Ultra Features:
This craft machine really can do it all!
This one machine can blade cut, foil transfer, draw, laser cut, laser engrave, and print!
Basic Carriage (included):
Inside the machine is a sliding arm that holds the Basic Carriage and Multi-Function Holder.
This Basic Carriage holds the Fine-Point Blade and Pens.
Multi-Function Carriage (included):
The Mult-Function Carriage holds the specialty blades like the cutting blade, that comes with the machine.
The Rotary Blade and the Foil Transfer Tip are other tips that can be purchased.
All additional modules, including the Multi-Function Carriage, slide onto the arm and connect via a plug.
Diode Laser Module (included):
The xTool M1 Ultra can be purchased as a 10-watt or a 20-watt, this applies to the power of the laser. The 20-watt is more powerful and will be a bit faster.
I have the 10-watt, but I can upgrade by purchasing the 20-watt laser module. No need to buy a new machine, and I love that!
Ink Module:
The Ink Module does not come with the M1 Ultra and can be purchased separately.
The M1 Ultra truly is a print-then-cut machine. Inkjet printing on wood, canvas, clay, leather, and more!
Plus, the ink cartridge can be replaced as needed. No more expensive than a home printer!
This is the feature that I am the most excited to play with!
xTool M1 Ultra Setup:
Setup is quick and easy, I just need to connect the Smoke Exhaust Module.
This module consists of a plastic tube that connects to the machine with a pinch plug.
Before plugging it into the back of the machine, place a filter into the plug box. They are sized perfectly to fit inside.
Proper ventilation is very important! Some materials produce toxic fumes when cut.
I use the Desktop Air Purifier because my crafting space isn't near a window or somewhere I can ventilate easily.
It filters 99.97% of the 5 μm to 0.3 μm particles making it safer to laser materials in my home.
The Smoke Exhaust Module connects to the Air Purifier in the back instead of out a window.
Connect to xTool Creative Space:
The software program that operates the M1 Ultra is called xTool Creative Space.
To access the software, visit xTool.com, and select software from the menu across the top of the screen.
I can select whether I have a PC or Mac to install the proper version.
Connect the computer and machine with the USB, and plug the key into the back of the M1 Ultra.
Turn on the M1, open xTool Creative Space, and log in.
If this is your first time logging in, you will be prompted to create an account.
Open a new project and make sure the M1 is connected.
Mine is not connected, and since I was connecting wirelessly, I had to go in and check my Bluetooth settings.
Once connected you are ready to create!
DesignFind is a part of xTool Creative and can be searched to find all sorts of fun projects to make.
First Laser Cut:
To test the machine, I will use the laser to cut something simple.
I found this cute rose design and this will be perfect.
Click open in XSC (xTool Creative Space.
Click on Material EasySet Library, and find material. I am using 3mm Basswood.
Click open in XCS and send the material settings to the M1 Ultra.
Place Triangular prisms on the base of M1 and place the basswood on top of the prisms.
Click on Frame, then Process, and start the cut by hitting the silver button on the front.
It is really fun to watch it cut!
The M1 Ultra will beep when finished cutting.
Remove the basswood and carefully push out the inner pieces.
The first cut looks great!
I am excited to create more items with this machine and see all it can do!
My Honest Review of the xTool M1 Ultra:
I promised you my honest review so here goes!
Positives:
- I love the multi-function of this machine with laser, blade, and print compatibility, it really does it all.
- The price! The M1 Ultra is a well-priced machine. Just the laser feature alone costs $4k+ with other brands.
- xTool Creative Space is easy to learn.
- The size! The M1 Ultra is easy to store when not in use and pull out when needed.
- The M1 Ultra includes sample materials to get crafting right away.
- Easy setup, no collaboration is needed, and includes everything needed to get the machine up and running.
Negatives:
- The cutting area is only about 12 x 12 inches. I wish it was longer. A 12 x 18 cutting area would be great!
Would I recommend buying the xTool M1 Ultra?
Absolutely YES! The M1 Ultra is a great machine and truly is the ultimate home craft machine. It does it all!
If you can afford to spend a couple hundred more dollars, I recommend jumping to the 20-watt. The faster cutting time will be well worth it.
Laser Essentials
- Are you new to laser machines? I highly suggest the xTool M1 Ultra! This machine is super easy to learn and helps you create beautiful projects!
- Are you more experienced with lasers and want more power? I love my OmTech 50W, but they have all types of machines up to 150W!
- Craft Closet is my favorite shop for laser materials. Their products are high-quality, and they have the lowest price I can find anywhere!
- If you really want to get into lasers, I highly suggest you learn how to create your own files. Pen & Posh has a great course for this.
