I am so excited to share this tutorial with you!

I love it so much! It was inspired by old comic books, like the ones I used for Aubrey's Name HERE. I wanted to separate the different fabrics in the style of comic book blocks. To do this I added red piping in between the fabric pieces. I pieced this together like a quilt (which I still plan to make) and just put the piping between the pieces. I LOVE LOVE LOVE how it turned out.
So does Aubrey : )
The different fabrics I used were Captain America, The Avengers, Star Wars, and Batman. All of which I bought at Joann's Fabric. Use those coupons!
The hardest part about this pillow was sketching out the sizes of each piece. SO to help make it easier for you, I have a diagram. YAY!
This diagram is based on a pillow case for a 12 x 16 pillow
Please note: this diagram includes all seam allowances and is what I drew up to accommodate my fabric choices.... feel free to use whatever sizes you want!
Now let's start the tutorial for the
Comic Book Superhero Pillow
What you need:
- Fabric for the top part of the pillow
- Fabric for the back of the pillow
- 1 Package of piping (unless you are making a bigger pillow, you might need more)
- I used a zipper foot for attaching the piping
First cut out all your fabrics according to the chart above. For the entire top portion of this pillow we will be using ¼" seam allowances.
Next I cut the pieces of piping to go in between each of the fabric pieces. I did one long piece down the center horizontally, just fyi. To attach the piping, I sewed mine on to onto the right side of the fabric following the thread on the piping as a guide. Then I placed the adjacent piece of fabric right sides together, sandwiching the piping between the two pieces. Then I used my first stitch (that attached the piping) as a guide when sewing. See picture
Then just continue the process until you have piping between all your pieces.
Then I pressed the top and top stitched next to all the piping just to help it "pop" a little.
and here is the finished top
Now to finish the rest of the pillow I used an envelop closure on the back and inserted my pillow!
Don't you just love it? I can't wait to finish Aubrey's Superhero Room when we move!
