Do you know how some recipes travel around? I got this recipe from my cousin, and she got it from her neighbor, and she got it from a coworker, on, and on, and on.
I truly have no idea where this recipe originated, but it is so good that you will be sharing it too.
Ingredients You'll Need For This Recipe:
- 1 box of Devils Food Cake Mix
- ½ cup of Butter or Margarine
- 5 oz of Evaporated Milk
- 11 oz Caramel Bits
- 1 cup of Milk Chocolate Chips
- 1 cup Pecans, chopped
- Cooking Spray

Turtle Brownies Recipe Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350º degrees.
Spray a 13x9 inch cake pan with cooking spray.
In a microwave-proof bowl, melt the butter. Then add in the cake mix and ⅓ cup of the evaporated milk.
Stir together until everything is completely mixed. The brownie batter will be thick almost like cookie dough.

Spread half of the brownie dough into your 13x9-inch pan.
Bake in the oven for 6 minutes.

While the brownies are baking begin making your caramel sauce.
In a medium-sized stovetop pan pour in the package of caramel and ⅓ cup evaporated milk.

Over low heat, slowly melt these two ingredients together, stirring often.
Don't worry if there are still a few chunks of caramel, because it will melt when the brownies go back into the oven.

On the baked brownies evenly spread out your chopped pecans and chocolate chips.

Drizzle the caramel sauce all over until every last yummy drop is on the brownies.

Take small handfuls of the remaining brownie dough and flatten with your fingers and place it on top of the caramel layer.

Place those pieces all over the pan to cover as much as you can. You may have some holes but once baked you will not be able to tell.

Bake for 15 minutes.
Let cool for several hours before serving.
In 2-3 hours it will be ooey gooey, in 4 to 5 hours it is firmer.
I actually like the brownies better on the second day. They firm up a bit more and are not as ooey gooey but still soft and yummy.

Cut them into squares and serve!

Go make these today, right now... I mean it, you will not be disappointed!
Don't be afraid to test with variations too. I have substituted with white chocolate and even mint chocolate. Yum!
Our Baking Essential List:
- For baking casseroles, we use Glass Baking Dishes. I especially like the dishes with lids so leftovers can be transferred straight to the fridge.
- Silicone Kitchenware is my favorite because they don't scratch my cookware and is easy to clean!
- A Glass Cutting Board is a must to prepare all of those ingredients. We even keep ours on our counter at all times.
- This Knife Set will also become your favorite! They cut beautifully, and with the hollow design of the knife, food doesn't stick to the blade.
