You won't believe this High Contrast Breakfast Room Makeover. It went from dark and dingy to a bright and beautiful high contrast look!
It's been a long time since I've done a full room renovation! We are 95%ers through and through so it's been hard to wrap up all these different spaces. Especially since it seems like I've been working on them all simultaneously for the last few months. But we are finally getting to all that left over 5%. Let's take a look at our High Contrast Breakfast Room Makeover from when we first moved in to this house.

And with some new railing, paint, and cabinet doors here's where it's at now!
Replace Cabinet Doors
Ok... it was a little more than that! Let's start from the beginning. I knew we had to do something with the cabinet doors. There was way too many and the gaps in between the doors were huge.
I worked with Fast Cabinet Doors (I'll share all the details on that next week) to get full overlay doors and an updated shaker style! We absolutely LOVE how they turned out!
Paint Wood Floors
The floors in the breakfast room were the only floors in the house that weren't original because this space was a covered porch conversion. It drove me absolutely nuts to have two different wood species right next to each other so just refinishing the color wouldn't do it for me. If I knew we were staying in this house I would've put down a herringbone brick on the floor, but it really boiled down to a financial decision. Since the house is an investment we really had to start stepping back and making sure it was worth it. And while the floor didn't match the kitchen it wasn't in that bad of condition... it just needed a refreshing. Plus I've always secretly wanted white floors.
Paint Wood Paneling
This whole room was wood paneling. Not my favorite, but we painted it in our very first Wisconsin house (see it here), and it looks SO much better painted white. Since I knew for a fact it would turn out good, I painted it all to avoid needing new sheetrock.
Black and White Breakfast Room Makeover
That about covers the easy things we did. But we did hire a contract for some of the bigger work. The ceiling in the kitchen, breakfast room, and down those steps into our little mud room entrance were all different heights. So we actually had the breakfast room and mudroom leveled out along with him replacing the stair railing. It feels so much cleaner just having those ceilings fixed.
Breakfast Room Decor
This room has a lot of windows, so there wasn't much need for decor. I decided to go with a high contrast look and hang some very dark gray (almost black) velvet curtains from Ikea to compensate for the lack of wall decor. I really wanted them to pop.
Raw Wood Dining Room Table with Cane Chairs
The table was actually a set I purchased of Facebook Marketplace and I shared some of the makeover in my IG stories (you can catch up on the highlights), but I'll do a tutorial on that as well.
I'm so excited to cross this room off our list! I'll do my best to share some links but a lot of this stuff I found on clearance or have had for years. I'll round up some similar items as well in case you want a similar look!

I love what you did with the built-in and replacing the doors. Very clever.
