Every year we watch How the Grinch Stole Christmas, both the original and the Jim Carey version. The kids love it, we love it, and it is always a part of our Christmas family movie night! This year I thought it would be fun to make some Grinch inspired cookies to eat while we watch how the Grinch's heart goes from being 3 size too small to filling with the Christmas spirit. These cookies are so fun to make. It's like playing with play dough! It's a great activity to let your kids get their hands a little dirty! Enjoy these Grinch Inspired Cool Whip Cookies!
It only takes three ingredients for these festive green cookies... well... plus the food coloring ; ) You mix these little guys up with a box of white cake, half a container of cool whip, 1 egg and a whole lotta elbow grease. Yes... you will sit down to make these, and when you go to add the cool whip you will think to yourself "who is this crazy lady who writes a blog" She obviously didn't make these herself. But I promise... it all works out, you just have to literally break your arm to give your kids this dessert : ). Ok ok, you won't really break your arm, but it does take quite a bit of strength to get through this batter! Once you have the batter all prepared you dip your hands in powdered sugar (this is the part your kids will love) and take little pieces of the batter and roll it into small little balls. Let's get baking shall we!

I've made these and they are wonderful, very light. Best part is they are so easy to make and takes very little time.

I have made these several years ago at Christmas time. During a grocery store visit, (yes I visit and hang out looking at all the new products). Anyway, while looking in the baking aisle during the Christmas season, a lady and I were talking about these easy cookies that she makes.
Using any flavor of cake mix, 1 egg, 1 cool whip container. Mix together,(it's messy), refrigerate, form balls, roll in powdered sugar and bake at 350. So we make strawberry, using the strawberry flavored cake mix. Delish! This year I will use the red velvet cake mix. Definitely try this recipe. Easy.
Recommend refrigerating to help with the sticky dough.

Donna
I have a question, you say they harden after they cool. do they get "hard" or just firm?
I dont really like crunchy cookies
Ashley
Hi Donna, SO SO sorry for the late response! Crazy holidays mixed in with vacation and I feel like I'm a year behind, but in case you haven't made them yet.. they don't really get crunch, they just firm up : ) Hope that helps! Have a great weekend!
Donna
thanks for the reply.. I went ahead and made them anyway 🙂 And yup just firmed up 🙂
Nova
I use a full container of cool whip. 8 oz. much easier to stir
Sarah
Did they turn out when you added the whole container?
Ashley
Hi Sarah, They do still work with the whole container, and some even choose to do it that way, but they don't get as fluffy, they are more flat, but the taste is pretty similar... but I like them puffy ; )
Robin
Thank you for sharing this!! I love the way you cook them, it’s worth it. I tried both but I and family knew the difference.
Tammy
Hello, these sound fun. Is there a reason you wouldn't use a mixer to mix the cool whip into the cake mix? I have problems with my arm, so i don't want to start with that! thanks.
