Watermelon Agave Snowballs are a refreshing frozen treat packed with sweet watermelon flavor. Perfect for hot summer days and backyard gatherings.

If there is one summer food that never lasts long around here, it is watermelon.
This simple recipe combines fresh watermelon and agave nectar into light and fluffy snowballs that are perfect for hot afternoons.
The texture is soft and icy, more like traditional snowballs than a crunchy snow cone.
With just two ingredients, this refreshing treat is an easy alternative to heavier desserts like ice cream and a favorite for summer gatherings.

Watermelon Agave Snowballs

Instructions

- Open a gallon-size freezer bag and carefully pour the watermelon mixture into the bag.
- Seal the bag tightly and check for leaks before placing it in the freezer.
- Lay the bag flat on a baking sheet or flat surface in the freezer. Freeze for 4 to 6 hours, or until the mixture reaches a soft, snowy consistency.
- If freezing overnight or longer, place the frozen bag on a plate and let it sit at room temperature for 15 to 30 minutes, or until it softens enough to break apart.

- Use your hands or the back of a spoon to crush the frozen mixture into fluffy snow-like pieces.
- Spoon the watermelon snow into serving glasses or bowls and serve immediately with a spoon and festive straw.
- Enjoy this refreshing frozen summer treat!

How to Store Leftovers
Store leftover Watermelon Agave Snowballs in a freezer-safe container or freezer bag for up to 1 month. Press out as much air as possible before sealing to help prevent ice crystals from forming.
When ready to serve, remove the container from the freezer and let it sit at room temperature for 15 to 30 minutes. Once slightly softened, use a fork, spoon, or potato masher to break the mixture back into a fluffy, snow-like texture.
If the mixture becomes too frozen and solid, do not microwave it. Allowing it to thaw naturally will help maintain the light, icy consistency that makes this treat so refreshing.
Why You'll Love This Recipe
This recipe is incredibly easy to make and requires very little hands-on time. Since watermelon contains so much water naturally, it freezes into a light, fluffy texture that is perfect for homemade snowballs.
Unlike many frozen desserts, this treat feels light and refreshing. It is sweet enough to satisfy a dessert craving while still letting the fresh fruit flavor stand out.
It is also a great recipe for serving a crowd. You can prepare it ahead of time and keep it in the freezer until guests arrive.
Tips for the Best Watermelon Snowballs
Seedless watermelon works best because it blends smoothly and requires less prep work. If your watermelon does contain seeds, take a few extra minutes to remove them before blending.
For the sweetest flavor, choose a ripe watermelon that feels heavy for its size and has a creamy yellow field spot on the bottom. A ripe watermelon makes a huge difference in the finished flavor.
After freezing, the mixture should have a soft, scoopable texture. If it becomes too firm, let it sit at room temperature for several minutes before breaking it into fluffy pieces.
The finished texture is similar to the snowballs commonly found in places like New Orleans, where finely shaved ice creates a soft and airy frozen treat.
Serving Ideas
Serve Watermelon Agave Snowballs in small bowls, dessert glasses, or paper cups for an easy summer treat.
For a fun presentation, add colorful straws, small spoons, or a fresh watermelon wedge on the side. These frozen snowballs are perfect for backyard gatherings, pool parties, picnics, and summer celebrations.
You can even freeze the mixture a day or two in advance, making this an easy dessert option when entertaining.

This girl from California has never heard of a snowball but I have no idea why??? These look so yummy and perfect for a hot summer day.

Omgoodness, Valerie 😉 Are there no snowballs in California?? We have to send you one! If you ever see one you have to try it, but unfortunately not all snowball stands are equal. The are really famous in New Orleans. We go to a local snoball stand here that actually make their own syrups!

The school I work at starts back next week. I like tp treat the children from time to time if budget friendly. This I will have to try while there are still fresh watermelon at the farmers market. And certainly going to treat them to the pineapple, mango freezer pops. I juice on a regular basis and will make some of the aforementioned for sure. Thanks for sharing.
