Sponge Balls Tutorial

July 23, 2018 By: Katie8 Comments

These Sponge Balls are perfect to take to the lake, pool, or just throw around in the front yard. They are fun to play with wet or dry and are great to use for all sorts of games.

Sponge Balls are really so easy to make and very inexpensive.  I made 6 balls for $1, yup just $1! All of the supplies that I needed I bought at my local dollar store.

You will need
  • sponges (I purchased a 10 pk from the $1 Store)
  • zip ties
  • scissors

Start out by cutting each sponge into four strips.

Group six sponge strips and wrap with a zip tie.

Tighten the zip tie and you will see the ball shape form automatically.

Trim the end of the zip tie as close to the end as you can. You don’t want to leave it out because it will scratch if the ball is grabbed wrong.

And wallah! You have a sponge ball.  Easy Peasy!

I have used these for indoor tossing games instead of a bean bag, but add water and that’s when they get really fun! (Outdoors of course!) What games would you play with these sponge balls?

These are so cute — I don’t have little ones anymore, but sure would love an excuse to make some.

Love these! I think I would just sit in hiding and throw them at my kids! Now, before everyone get all huffy, my kids are 16 & 17 and they can handle it! lol Actually this would be super fun when we are boating too because they float. Thanks for sharing 🙂

What a fun, quick and cheap craft. I’ll have to look for sponges next time I’m at the dollar store. Thanks for sharing at Terrific Tuesdays.
