Supply List
- 14 Green Bandanas
- 1 Red Bandana
- 16-inch Wire Wreath Form
- 1-inch Red Pom Poms
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun
- Silicone Finger Protectors (optional)
For the best deal, purchase the wire frame at the dollar store and the bandanas from Hobby Lobby.
Cut the Bandanas
Unfold each green bandana and cut down the center using the fold line as a guide.
There are 14 green bandanas. I have 28 halves after cutting them.
Wrap Wreath Form
Grab a cut bandana and fold it in half, bringing the ends together.
Keeping the ends of the bandana in the center, place the wire wreath form on top.
I opened the loop end with my fingers, grabbed the ends, and pulled them through.
Pull the ends to tighten the bandana around the wreath form.
Continue tying the bandana strips around the wire wreath frame using this method.
Once all the pieces are tied, fluff out the ends to make the wreath more full.
Make the Bow
The single red bandana is for the bow.
Open the bandana to see that the fold created four panels that are the length of the bandana.
Cut one length with a side hem and another with the top and bottom hem.
The piece with the side seam cut off the solid red portion, keeping only the patterned section.
On the larger panel, fold the two ends towards the center with a slight overlap.
Apply hot glue to the end of one side and adhere to the other end.
Hem the raw edges by applying a thin line of hot glue and folding the raw edge into the glue.
This is the back of the bow, so it is ok if it looks messy.
With the bow still facing up, pinch-fold the material in the center.
Hold the center and flip the bow over to see the front; if it doesn't look right, the material can be flattened, and the pinch fold can be redone.
Scrunch the thinner pattern strip and wrap it around the center of the bow a few times.
Tie a knot in the back and apply hot glue to hold the ends down.
Hot Glue
Locate the bottom center of the wreath and add some hot glue to attach the bow.
Glue three pom poms together to create holly berries.
Glue the pom poms to the wreath. I spaced them out every three tied pieces.
This is a beautiful wreath, and I am so excited to hang it on my front door for the holidays, welcoming my friends and family.
Final Thoughts
I have also created a tutorial for a Patriotic Bandana Wreath.
One of the most common questions with that similar tutorial is how to stiffen the bandanas to keep them from drooping.
I recommend using a starch or a stiffener on the bandanas.
Whether to apply it before they are tied depends on the type of starch used.
A fabric stiffener liquid would be applied to the bandanas before tying them.
A spray starch or stiffener would be applied after tying the bandanas to the frame.
