Create beautiful sparkly Christmas ornaments to hang on your Christmas Tree. This handmade family keepsake ornament will be a favorite for years to come.
Every year my family does a homemade Christmas Ornament Exchange. It is one of my favorite Christmas traditions. There are 8 families that participate, so each year we each make 8 of the same ornament and then exchange them. Every year I have 8 new Christmas ornaments that are made by my very favorite people. All of the ornaments become keepsakes and it is so much fun to pull them out every year.

- Clear Glass Ball Ornaments
- Reinkers in any color
- Super Fine Glitter in any color
- ¼" Ribbon
How to Make Sparkly Christmas Ornaments with Glitter
Begin by adding about 20 drops of the reinker to the inside of the glass ornament.
Gently roll the ink around until the entire inside of the ornament is well coated. DO NOT SHAKE, that will create bubbles in the ink so make sure you roll.
After the inside of the ornament is nicely covered then set it upside down to drain on top of a cup or jar.
Make a very simple funnel by rolling a small piece of scrap paper and pour a couple of tablespoons of superfine glitter into the ornament.
If you want to keep your fingers clean from ink, I suggest wearing a rubber glove here. Put a finger over the hole of the ornament and shake, shake, shake!
Dump out the excess glitter and you have a very pretty, sparkly ornament!
We had a lot of fun experimenting with different colored inks and glitters. The glitters would become a completely different color when put inside the different colored ornaments from the reinkers.
We even tried to make an ugly one with green ink and yellow glitter and it ended up being almost gold and very pretty. Probably one of my favorites! You can see it to the right in the next picture.
To hang the ornament tie a loop of ¼" ribbon to the cap of the ornament. I love how the twinkle lights from the tree bounced right off of them. So pretty!!

Can you tell me what colour you used for the green ink and yellow sparkles. I love this one. I want to make a reindeer and this looks like the ideal colour. Would much appreciate if you could let me know. Would like to make this for my daughter - I've given her an ornament for her tree ever since she got married 20 yrs. ago - some bought but a lot of them homemade. This year I've made a few and I found a reindeer I like and came across your ornament and I love it - especially the one you thought would be ugly - the green ink with yellow sparkles I believe you said you used. Mind telling me exactly the colour of ink it is - would like to get this - it looks like it would be ideal for the reindeer. Many tks. Love your work.

Helen, I am so glad that you love my ornaments! As for the exact color of ink and glitter, I am sorry I no longer have the bottles but the colors I used were the standard yellow like the sun and green like the grass type of colors. They weren't weird shades of these colors. IF you are wanting to make sure you get a gold you could use a gold glitter and a light brown inker and should give you a nice gold color too.
I love that you give your daughter a handmade ornament every year. We have a similar tradition in my family and these handmade ornaments are my favorite keepsakes!

Hello, I'm not quite sure if Reinkers is a type or brand of alcohol ink. Is this a specific type or brand of ink? Otherwise, I think these are the best-looking glitter ornaments that I've seen. Thank you for the tutorial.
Katie Adams
Hi Diane, Thank you so much!
A reinker is a bottle of ink that you use to reink ink pads for stamping. It is not alcohol-based, but water-based.
