I'm sharing the design plans for this Pink and Gold Girl's Bedroom as part of the One Room Challenge for Week 1!
It's the first day of the One Room Challenge! If you aren't familiar with with this fun little challenge let me explain. Bloggers... and well anyone gather together to share the progress of one room, but the challenge is finishing it in 6 weeks. This is the first week so I'll be sharing the before photos and the design plan for our daughters room. I feel a little like a crazy person making the decision to take this room on! See we're currently in the middle of a bathroom remodel and pretty much minutes away from ripping out our kitchen.
If you've been following me on Instagram you know that we're also working on getting our entire upstairs done because that's where all our kids rooms are. They are currently all camped out in the living room, so there is definitely a sense of urgency. Yes, I do realize this in fact makes me sound crazy. But do you wanna know the real reason I signed up to do this? Because I feel like it gives me a deadline to finish my daughter's room, which happens to be upstairs... and in order to finish her room we have to refinish all the floors upstairs, which means maybe.. just maybe... all my kids will be moved upstairs in about 6 weeks! Fingers crossed!
Let's take a look at the before pictures of my daughter's room!
As you can see it's not so great. My favorite part is definitely the random slap of turquoise paint on the door... seems like a good place to test it out *insert my annoyed and very sarcastic face here*. I know the nastiness of this room likely isn't transcending the internet, but guys.. this whole house was SO GROSS!! Every square inch needed to be doused in bleach and well... I just don't know how else to describe it! Let's just say it took me 4 days to clean the downstairs, which is about 1400 sq. ft.... 4 days of solid scrubbing and bleaching!! We didn't even touch the upstairs, we just started tearing down walls! Needless to say, nobody steps foot up there unless they are wearing a hazmat suit... haha! But really, don't go up there!
There was originally a closet that somebody built in, but it was in no way structurally sound. Yeah, we ripped that out. There's an original closet but it's quite small... however I think I can make it work so I wanted to give my daughter the extra space in her room rather than rebuilding the closet.
Now let's talk about everything that will be done in this bedroom:
Remove Closet- Refinish Floors
- Add Board and Batten
- Paint Board and Batten
- Paint Walls
- Paint Trim and Door
- Change Light
- Decorate
Just a little side note, we are actually replacing all the windows in the entire house, because you can literally see daylight coming through. Not only are most of them extremely old and rotting, even the few that have been recently changed weren't caulked around. If you know me, you'll know that there is no way I could keep a few windows that didn't match the rest of the house. My brain just doesn't work that way, lol! But in all honestly they were poorly installed!
And last, but certainly not least, here's the design plan. It's very out of my neutral loving comfort zone, and despite the fact of how white the plan looks, the board and batten will be pink, because when my little girl wants pink, I figure it out, hah! I'm actually quite excited to play with this room! Being pushed out of your comfort zone is what keeps you learning and growing. Who knows... maybe you will see some dark green in my son's room 😉 Watch out!!

Great plan Ashley. I am sure you will get it done in your allotted time.
Love the pink color and the rug. Your daughter will love it.

what a cute design concept! I'm not a pink lover either, but my daughter has been since birth, so I completely understand decorating outside your comfort zone. Love the design board, can't wait to see the finished product.

The design board looks great. I really like those old doors like that, they have a great feel to them. The rug is beautiful and looks like you could keep the rug and update the room colors when/if she ever wants it done.
No offense to anyone but I am so over that blue color, if I had my way it would be banned from Hometalk!
Can't wait to see what you do with the closet. Good Luck with all!

Hi, my daughter wants to paint her room pink too and we love this color but I can’t find if you say anywhere what color it is. Can you tell me, what is the pink called? Thanks!
Zee
