We have been in this house for two years. In that two years I have remodeled our kitchen twice (here, and here) painted a lot of walls and ignored some spaces too. One of the weirdest things about this house was that for the square footage the "dining room" was sized for about two people. But off the dining room is technically this "family room", which is also like the world's smallest family room, so I combined both these spaces into a very long dining room. We have a long table, so this works, but the space was still a bit awkward. The wall opposite the kitchen was just weird and empt... so I added a new big piece of furniture (I'll share at a later date) and my new little reading nook.
My first plan was to build a really large buffet across this entire wall and utilize it for storage space... but that would make too much sense ; ). Everyone gathers in this room and I wanted to have a comfy place to sit and drink my coffee anyways. So I decided on a different piece of furniture and ultimately this reading nook. Sadly I probably won't read here because I'm not much of a reader, but I will drink coffee here. I do lots of that!
You can get a little sneak peek of my new piece of furniture in the picture above. : ) You might have already seen some of it if you follow me on instagram : )
Every reading nook needs a lamp, and a table lamp wasn't going to work since I knew there wouldn't be an actual side table, so I opted for this Better Homes and Gardens Hinged Floor Lamp. Not to mention that this end of the dining room desperately needed some light! I love how this lamp looks with my chair! That adorable basket holding the pillows is also from Walmart (I'm not sure if they still sell it or not). This basket makes quite a few appearances in my house because it's so versatile! My kids also like to use it for "grocery shopping" aka take everything in the house and move it to the middle of the floor..... any floor!
Something else I've been wanting to add more of in our home is plants. I adore real plants, but to be honest I have about the blackest thumb you can get! Fingers crossed I don't kill this one, because then maybe one day I can get a fiddle leaf fig!
Of course I needed my favorite Better Homes and Gardens throw to go in the reading nook! For all my morning coffee snuggles, haha!
Overall this new space is working out great for our family! I will be revealing this whole area soon, but if you want to take a peek into our kitchen, you can do that here.

I love LOVE your style! Very West Elm meets country chic. I'm in love. And I love the idea of a door leaned up against the wall as a background behind a reading nook. Perfection. Visiting from the Monday Linkup =)

What a cute little space! I love your farmhouse style. Like any other self-respecting Texan, I'm a big fan of Fixer Upper on HGTV and have fallen in love with the farmhouse look. My current decor style is Americana, and I want to start introducing more farmhouse elements into my home. The tiny glimpse of your dining area here caught my eye. I have a dark wood dining table with black chairs, similar to yours. We want to install dark wood floors in the near future, but I wasn't sure how it would look with our table & chairs. Thanks to your photos here, I know it will look great with an area rug and a fresh coat of paint in the room. I'll be stalking the heck out of the rest of your blog soon! Thanks!!!

Thanks so much Julie! I was a little nervous about making that decision too, but I'm super happy with it so far! Have a great weekend, and thank you SO much for stopping by!!
