I love my kids! I love them with my whole heart and more. My kids love paper... with their whole heart... and maybe even a little bit more.
When you're daughter brings you a picture she drew of you and herself as the queen and princess, what's a mom to do? I'll tell you what she does. She puts it on her nightstand or in a drawer or on the fridge or on any flat surface she can find in her home! That's what a mom does!
Well this mom can't take it anymore (but I love my kids oh so much), and I decided to come up with a plan. An easy to build DIY Photo Wall Pocket Organizer. Not just any wall pocket organizer... a wall pocket organizer where each kid gets a dedicated space to keep their papers for mommy and daddy. This way I don't have mom guilt for sneaking them into the recycling, the kids get to practice putting paper in a place it actually goes, and I can keep all their little drawings! The best part, their little pocket has their adorable face on it so they know who's is who... because we wouldn't want anyone mixing things up. That would clearly be the end of the world!
When thinking through this project I knew I wanted to have their pictures double as wall decor. I didn't want a plain picture on the pocket organizer.... that's no fun. So when I ran across these Metal Prints on Mixbook, I knew they would work perfectly and add dimension to the project!
They are as easy to order as regular prints! You can also order the metal prints as a flat or curved option.
Not only are these metal prints great for projects like this, but they would make awesome gallery walls using family pictures! I've already got some more project ideas spinning now that I've seen them in person! They also come with a stand on the back of the print so you don't even need a frame. Awesome gift idea for dad!
To attach the metal prints on the pocket wall organizer, I used command strips. That way I can change them out as they get older, or perhaps steal them for a different project ; )!
Now, let's make a Photo Pocket Wall Organizer!
Supplies:
- Metal Photo Prints
- 2'x4' ¾" Plywood
- 2'x4' ¼" Plywood
- (2) 1x2
- Ryobi Table Saw
- Ryobi Miter Saw
- Ryobi Orbital Sander
- Ryobi 18 gauge Finish Nailer
- 2" Finish Nails
- ⅝" Finish Nails
- Wood Glue
- Paint & Paint Brush
- Command Strips
Cut List:
- (1) 16" x 37 ½" piece of plywood (¾" thick)
- (6) 1x2's @ 9 ½"
- (3) 1x2's @ 12"
- (3) 9 ½ x 13 ½" pieces of plywood (¼" thick)
DIY Photo Wall Pocket Organizer
Start by making the cuts from the list above. When working with projects that are on a smaller scale, I typically prefer to do my sanding first. Once assembled it can be difficult to get into some of the corners, and since this is something that is meant to be used quite often, avoiding splinters seems like a good idea!
First, taking your ¾" piece of plywood, draw lines where the 1x2's will be place. This ensures everything stays lined up.
Using the lines as your guide, attach the 1x2's to the ¾" plywood board using wood glue and 2" finish nails. (I chose to paint the board at this point, and the ¼" front panels separately, just making it easier to get into corners.)
Now that the base of the pockets are installed, lay the ¼" plywood pieces on top of the 1x2's and attach using wood glue and ⅝" finish nails.
Once the DIY Photo Wall Pocket is built you can fill any visible nail holes with wood putty, lightly sand with a sanding block, and touch up paint.
Now it's time to attach your metal prints to the front. Attach command strips to the metal print, then to the organizer following the manufacturer's instructions. Then hang your new Photo Pocket Wall Organizer anywhere you please, look at your kids adorable faces, and think about how organized you are! : )

I'm dazzled by how well built is your blog! The instructions are amazingly well written and illustrated. The photo organizer is beautiful but more beautiful are your children. Congratulations on everything!
