If you follow me on Instagram you'll probably remember me talking about my desire to be more of a minimalist. Overall I think it stems from some changes we've been making in our lifestyle as well as our home and being a minimalist just fits. Walking into a room and having it feel 100% clean and uncluttered is my happy place, but that doesn't seem to happen for us when our home is so full of "stuff". I have been working with Article to make these changes, and I could not be more pleased with the results! Let's take a look at our empty living room when we first moved in to our house (not super exciting)! Then it's transformation into our new Minimalist Living Room!!
I've decorated this living room many different times, but this Minimalist Living Room Decor is my favorite addition to this home yet!
First of all, if you haven’t heard about Article yet, let me do the honors of introducing you. They’re an online-only furniture brand with tons of beautiful mid-century and Scandinavian-inspired furniture options. By foregoing traditional showrooms for an online-only experience, Article is able to provide lower prices than a typical furniture retailer. Their designs are also so well thought out. All the clean lines and quality materials made creating my Minimalist Living Room a breeze. But if you’re ever unsure about your furniture, they also have a 30-day return policy you can take advantage of.
Minimalist Sofa Options
Our new Sitka Sofa is obviously the focal point in this space. We all love how deep this couch is. My only concern when ordering it was it has a rather low profile, however my husband is almost 6'4" and we all love sitting on this new sofa! It actually sits at a very comfortable height on your back and I love how I don't feel like I'm drowning in pillows and can still feel cozy! Though you need to check out all their sofa options because I was really torn between a few of the different styles! So many great options!

I also ordered these nesting tables. The two smaller tables were used in front of the sofa in place of a coffee table and the largest one as a side table.
I really didn't want much on the side table, because remember, it's all about being a minimalist! Then I decided to go with this floor lamp for cozy light in the evenings.
The lower profile of the sofa actually really opened up the space in a way I never imagined. Because it sits a little lower without sacrificing the size of the actual sofa the ceilings feel quite taller. This provides an airier feel overall to the room.
How to Combine Cozy and Minimalism
We also added this large basket next to the sofa to provide a place to store all my throws, because let's be real... I'm a throw blanket snob! I don't know why I can't pass up a good throw blanket, haha!
I've found in playing around with this new minimalist approach it's very easy to end up with a sterile vibe. That's definitely not my goal in living a less complicated life! By adding the warm texture of this basket really brings in that coziness that I don't ever want to exclude!
My kid's are always on the floor, and so are my pillows. The struggle is real guys! I normally have tons of throw pillows on the sofa, but with less pillows on the sofa I decided to add this large copper floor pillow to our living room for my kids to get cozy with when they lay on the floor to watch a movie. I can't stop looking at its shimmering metallic texture and with the leather handle my kids can easily move it around as well — it’s all about the little details!
Overall I'm loving this new look for our home. I feel like I've finally found that balance of what I love and what works for our family. Stay tuned for changes throughout our home. But in the meantime, if you are looking for some amazing unique furniture be sure and check out everything Article has to offer!

Your living room is lovely. I am so happy to see that you do not own a white couch. It just seems like a lot of people are trying to convince me to go over to the white couch brigade and I can't do it. I use my couch! lol SO I am loving yours and that mirror too, hanging on the wall.

Aww thank you! I'm totally with you on the white couch! Don't get me wrong, I love how they look... but we have 3 kids and a 70lbs dog so it just wasn't for us. I will say it was nice to just bleach it if necessary... but I was having to bleach it way too often for my taste! Thanks so much for stopping by!

you've done a great job of filling the space...the ceilings seem so high, i would think that would be hard to fill. enjoy!

Thanks! They aren't too tall, but there was definitely some awkward space above the TV. <3

How big is your window? We have a large window behind our couch in our living room with vertical blinds that I would LOVE to replace. I love the simple blinds and curtains. Do you mind sharing your sources for those?

Where did you find that adorable hanging plant holder? Or did you make it? I love it!

Wow, the Sitka Sofa is so beautiful. And the whole living room is just gorgeous. I've never thought of nesting tables until now but they look gorgeous. I have a boring white oval table that's due for a change. Thanks for the inspiration!

Bright, white lighting is a quick way to make a room feel washed out and makes any potentially tacky design decisions stand out even more. Dim, minimal lighting, on the other hand, can work in basements but can also pretty quickly make a man-cave feel a bit too much like an actual cave.

By adding different textures to a room, you create a custom (read: more expensive) look. Try adding a Turkish rug with a wood arm chair and metal accessories. Add some throw pillows in various textures such as silk and velvet to round out the look.

In case of minimalist design, many designers stick to simple color palettes. They like to use colors like simple black, white and/or some shades of gray.

Cozy Minimalism isn't about counting your possessions or a particular style, but a mindset that says–whatever style you LOVE, you desire to achieve it with the fewest possible items: simply being intentional and knowing what to use in each space–for some of us, that might mean a few extra pillows, for others that might.

I've always liked the idea of minimalism. You've done such a great job with your space that I might actually borrow some ideas when I move to a new house next month. Thanks for sharing!
