Learn how to make a DIY Blanket Ladder. With this simple tutorial and only 3 basic tools you can save space while neatly storing your blankets.

Remember how I said I had a few projects left from our old house? Well today I'm going to knock one out. It's crazy how long this move has take us to get settled in. Normally when I finish a project I'm pretty much posting it the next day so it's totally weird to be sharing projects I completed months ago! But hey, we gotta try new stuff every once in a while right! ; )
This is a really easy build and you only need 3 tools to do it!
Cut List:
- (2) 2x4's @ 71 ½"
- (4) 1x4's @ 20"
Tools:
- Hammer
- 1 ½" Nails
- Sander & Sandpaper

How to Build a DIY Blanket Ladder
Remember how I said this is a super easy build? Well... there's basically one step to build it. Once you have your wood cut, just lay it out following the diagram below.
Then all that's left to do is connect your 20" pieces to the ladder sides using wood glue and good old fashioned hammer and nails! I put 3 nails in each end and wasn't concerned about all the ends matching to make it look older. But if you like things perfectly symmetrical you can do that too!
I also took my hammer and beat it up a little in a few places after sanding it. It can be therapeutic ; ) If you have any super rough spots after beating it up, you can run the sander over it again to smooth out any edges.
Then it's just time to stain the ladder. I used Minwax's Special Walnut to apply 1 coat, then I sealed it with 2 coats of shellac. Let it dry for at least 36 hours before adding blankets just to make sure nothing rubs off!

Thanks for sharing these plans-I have given up hope finding an old ladder at the flea market, so I will probably give this a try.

Thanks for the dimensions. I like to cut all my boards, stain them , then build it. Not so many nooks and crannies. I just built a ladder and made it 22" wide. It is too wide, darn. I like your width much better. Thanks

Very cute. I've seen different ladders similar to this but the wood is way to out of proportion. This one looks just right!

If i plan to rest my ladder on a hardwood floor, what do you suggest using so that it doesn’t slip?
Katie
I would probably use the rubber pads that are meant to go under furniture to protect floors and just cut it to fit the bottom of the ladder : )
