How to make a simple soda can key chain using your favorite pop! An easy DIY craft tutorial idea that will impress your friends!
The debate is never-ending over which is better, Coke or Pepsi? My vote would definitely be Pepsi but of the diet variety. My husband jokes that Diet Pepsi runs in my veins. But honestly who wants to drink water? They put that in toilets! (LOL!)
Did you know you could make this fun key chain out of a soda can? You totally can!
Supplies Used: Some links may be too similar items when exact items couldn't be found online.
- Existing Keychain or Chain, Jump Rings, and a Split Ring
- 2 Aluminum Soda Cans
- Hand Held Punches
- ⅛" Hole Punch
- Glossy Accents
- Scissors
How to Make a Soda Can Key Chain
To make my keychain, I used one I already had with dangling hearts.
First, I removed the hearts and kept the jump rings so I could use them to put on the new Diet Pepsi charms.
Take your aluminum can and carefully remove the top and bottom. You should be able to cut the can with a simple pair of scissors.
The aluminum is very sharp so watch your fingers! Cut the body of the can into thirds so you have 3 sheets to work with.
To cut out my shapes I used an assortment of paper punches I already had on hand. I know they are meant for paper but mine cut through the aluminum really well.
Cut 2 of each shape so you will have a front and a back.
When all of the shapes are cut, glue the wrong sides together of the same shape and let them dry. Use the ⅛ inch hole punch to make the hole for the jump ring at the top of the shape.
Apply a thick layer of Glossy Accents and get it all the way to the edge. Allow to fully dry before turning the piece over and adding a layer on the other side.
TIP: Stay close with a pin or needle for the first 20 minutes so you can pop any air bubbles that appear. I didn't and I have air bubbles
When they are dry they will look shiny and pretty.
I took the jump rings from the old key chain and used them to attach the new charms.
I love my new key chain!

Your husband and my husband should talk 🙂 My husband asked if I want an IV so that I can shoot the diet coke directly into my system 🙂 LOVE the toilet water comment and so stealing that! As for this keychain, LOVE it and "pinning" it so that I can make my own!

Great timing! I have the exact same thing pinned and the cans saved so I could make one of thesefor my daughter this week. She's about to get her license. Great idea to use punches, though that makes it so much easier.

Glossy Accents can be found on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2zprDIL (Affiliate)
It can be used as a glue but gives a glossy overlay to anything it is applied to.
