Make your home Merry & Bright with these Modern Classic Christmas Porch Decor Ideas using wreaths, greenery, and cozy textiles!

We finished up our front porch this summer which means this is my first Christmas where I get to decorate the whole porch and not have to photograph around the humps that were in our decking last year, haha! You can actually see them if you look close at our Christmas Door from a few years ago! But this year I was able to photograph the whole space. So today I'm sharing tips on our Modern Classic Christmas Porch Decor!
My style has definitely changed over the years of living in this house, however having this 165 year old home in the historic district I just felt the need to go a little traditional with a slight modern flair.
Christmas Porch Garland Tutorial
I've been wanting to do garland across the front of this porch since the moment I saw it! So that was the first thing I worked on! It's just some cheap garland with real stems. I did this garland almost exactly like our mantel garland, except I used all real stems vs some fake some real since this is outdoors.
Here's the steps I took:
- Wrap cheap garland with lights
- Hang garland with floral wire or zip ties
- Start sticking in real stems. (I used 4 different varieties for depth and dimension.
- Add a bow at the columns and secure with floral wire.
A little time consuming, but super easy!
Classic Christmas Front Door Decor
The first thing you see when you look up at our porch is the front door. It's at the top of our stairs. This year I didn't hang garland around the door since I have all the wreaths and the garland on the porch railing. Instead I just added my winter wreath, new door mats, and a pair of planters I picked up at Home Depot.

For the rest of our porch I kept all our usual furniture out (we've had an unusually dry and warm winter here in Wisconsin this year, but I'm not complaining). No snow yet... although I did run out and take these pictures on day when we got some flurries.
We added this pre-lit Christmas Tree I used last year to the porch, added some berry stems, and called it done. I really wanted a natural vibe out here.
Cozy Christmas Outdoor Decor
We've actually been able to enjoy the outdoors a little more this winter because it hasn't been down in the freezing temps yet! Woot! I don't always pull out a whole tray of cookies and coffee or cocoa, but when I do I photograph them ;). To be totally honest we have been making a little too much cocoa this year! My daughter is old enough to do that kind of stuff on her own now and she makes way more of an effort than I do these days!
And of course blankets are a must!
Outdoor Christmas Wreaths on Exterior Windows
Right after I imagined the garland on our porch railing I imagined wreaths on the windows! I have all these plain wreaths from some decorations I did at a church a few years ago so I utilized those. However after we went to the tree farm I really wish I would've bought some real ones! But apparently I can't spend thousands on Christmas decor so..... ;).
I would also get bigger wreaths or hang doubles on the 2nd story because when I was editing these photos I realized how small they are. They don't look that small in person and I still love them, but I wouldn't mind a little more size up there!
Exterior Christmas Decor
Overall I just added some pillows and blankets to the porch for a cozy vibe, the rest was the garland and the wreaths! I hope you enjoyed our little Christmas Porch Tour! Here's a few more photos, and then don't forget to check out our Christmas Home Tour!
