A couple weeks ago I posted a recipe for The Best Homemade Ranch Recipe. In that post, I showed the yummy, creamy ranch with my homemade Chicken Nuggets.

Ever since I have gotten a lot of requests for my chicken nugget recipe. Of course, I couldn’t deny my amazing readers! My sister Tracy taught me how to make these and they have been a staple in our menu ever since.

Usually, when I cook I don’t measure. I just throw it in until it looks/smells right. I have measured things out for you but feel free to adjust the seasonings to your liking. My family’s seasoning staples are seasoning salt, lemon pepper, and garlic salt.

Click here for a printable PDF version of this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 4 Chicken Breast Halves
  • 3 Cups Flour
  • 2 Tbsp Seasoning Salt
  • 2 Tbsp Lemon Pepper
  • 2 Tbsp Garlic Salt
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • Frying Oil
  • Frank’s Red Hot or Favorite BBQ Sauce

How to Make Homemade Chicken Nuggets

For my family of 6, I use 4 boneless chicken breast halves. This always leaves us plenty of leftovers for both mine and my husband’s lunch the next day so I would say serves 7-8 people.

Cut the chicken breasts into chunky/nugget size pieces. I prefer to cut chicken when it is still slightly frozen because I think it cuts so much better.

In a medium sized bowl combine the dry ingredients, flour, seasoning salt, lemon pepper, and garlic salt.

In a separate medium sized bowl combine the wet ingredients, milk, and egg.

This is how the dry and wet mix will look when combined.

Take the chicken chunks and dip in the wet mixture.

Then coat the chicken in the dry mixture.

Lay the coated chicken in a frying pan with a little less than 1/2 inch of oil, heated on medium heat.

Watch the nuggets and turn over in the oil what the first side is golden brown and allow the other side to cook. I like to check the first couple by cutting them open with a knife and a fork so I know what their color will be when they are done.

Line a bowl or plate with a couple paper towels and lay the finished nuggets on top. This will help soak up any excess oil.

Once cooled, you can eat them as is with a little bit of dipping sauce or you can turn them into boneless chicken wings by coating them in your favorite hot sauce or bbq sauce! I like the flavor of Frank’s Red Hot. It has really good flavor and it isn’t too hot for me.

Throw a couple nuggets into a plastic container with a lid and pour on either BBQ sauce, Frank’s Red Hot or whatever sauce you like on your nuggets and give it a good shake.

We like to have rice with our nuggets because while we love to dip our nuggets in ranch, but we also love to mix ranch in with our rice – sounds gross I know, but it really is fantastic!

MMMMMMM So Yummy!

Mm, the lemon pepper sounds like a good addition!
We like to make them, toss them in Franks sauce (with some brown sugar dissolved in it) and put them in a salad with craisins and blue cheese dressing kind of like at Wingers!
(and, I picked this as a fave from Ginger Snap Craft’s party!)

I wish I could help you there but I have never cooked gluten free before so I honestly don’t know what to tell you. But thank you for your inquiry.

I also need gluten free. The small town I live in does not sell gluten free flours, I am going to bread them in cornmeal.
