Make a fresh-cut flower tote from burlap and simple supplies for carrying flowers, garden finds, and little outdoor treasures.

This fresh-cut flower tote turned into such a fun little project around here once the flowers started blooming.
My kids loved filling it with fresh flowers during our walks and backyard adventures.
I needed an easy way to carry all those stems without little hands crushing them along the way, and this burlap tote worked perfectly.
It is lightweight, simple to make, and would make a sweet Mother's Day gift for anyone who loves gardening.
Skill Level: Beginner
Total Time: 15 minutes
Instructions
Start by cutting your burlap into a rectangle shape.
The exact size isn't important, so you can easily adjust it based on who will use the tote.
I made mine smaller so it would fit comfortably in my kids' hands while they carried fresh-cut flowers around the yard.
One helpful trick when cutting burlap is to pull out a single fiber. This leaves behind a visible line you can follow with your scissors, making it much easier to get a straight cut.
Next, find two sticks that are slightly wider than the burlap piece. These sticks help hold the tote open and give it structure while carrying flowers.

To attach the sticks, thread twine through the burlap near the top edge.
A crochet hook makes this easier because you can pull the twine right through the fibers.
If you do not have one, a pencil works well for creating a small opening first.

Wrap one end of the twine around the stick several times to hold it securely in place.
On the opposite side, wrap the twine twice and tie it into a bow.

Repeat this process in the center and on the other end of the burlap so the stick stays secure across the entire width. T
Then repeat everything on the second side with the other stick.
Once both sticks are attached, your flower tote is ready to use.

The burlap naturally folds around the flowers, helping hold the stems together while still keeping everything lightweight and easy to carry.
A Fun Outdoor Activity for Kids
This project is really more than just a tote. It turns into one of those simple outdoor activities kids remember.
Mine filled theirs with fresh cut flowers, leaves, sticks, and all kinds of tiny treasures they discovered outside.
It gave them a fun little purpose during walks and made flower picking feel even more special.

It's probably illegal to pick flowers in your state park. You might want to check the rules and regulations.
