I admit, I'm not huge on decorating for many Holidays other than the Fall season and Christmas. Everything else feels like it sneaks up on me before I get a chance to make a trip to Hobby Lobby :)! But I do enjoy making just a little something for Easter, and this year I made these Rustic Industrial Easter Eggs that will sit somewhere on my Spring Mantel as we get closer to Easter! I've also teamed up with 3 other ladies to share some other ideas with you so after your done getting the low down on these, be sure to stop by and see what they are creating!
When I was making these I knew I wanted to have stained wood eggs. I wasn't entirely sure what I was going to do with them though. As I walked around Hobby Lobby one day looking for some other Spring items I thought about looking for some kind of galvanized ribbon (cause that exists right) I figured there had to be something at a hardware store that would work for what I had in mind. Sure enough I googled it and something came up. So off to Home Depot I went, but I got distracted on an aisle when I ran across these hose clamps! It was perfect! It would give me the look I wanted and I wouldn't even have to glue it in place! Plus I think they were like $.93 each!
The other eggs are just wrapped in a 20 gauge craft wire around some moss ribbon. But let's start from the beginning!
Supplies:
(some links below are affiliate links)
- Wooden Easter Eggs (I found some at Hobby Lobby also)
- Minwax Special Walnut Stain
- Hose Clamps
- Moss Ribbon
- Craft Wire, 20 gauge
Rustic Industrial Easter Egg Tutorial
Starting with your plain wooden eggs I put one coat of the Special Walnut Stain, and then be sure and wipe off an excess after about 5 minutes. For some reason I don't have just a picture of the stained eggs, but here is what they looked like out of the package ; )
Once the stain is dry you just need to cut your moss to the desired shapes. For the one wrapped in wire I cut a very thin strip and just held it in place while I wrapped the wire around. Then just twist it off to get it to stay in place! Then I wrapped one in wire without any moss just because I liked it ; )!
Then for one I just added a hose clamp and nothing else, but I wanted to do something else with the moss so I just cut out a little square for the other one. The most important thing you need to make sure of is that your hose clamp is the right size! I just took my egg in with me and tried it on. If you aren't familiar with them, there is a little screw that you just twist and it will tighten around the egg for you so you can get it nice and secure!
But you can get totally creative with these! You could add some burlap or fabric in there, whatever you can think up!
Be sure and take a look through these other fabulous ideas!!
