So far this year I'm running a little behind on Christmas decor. Usually, our tree is up by Thanksgiving. But it feels like we have been going and going all year long without a break so we took a few days around Thanksgiving to relax and hang out with our kids playing card games. Of course, there was cooking and cleaning, but that stuff never ends.
I just finished the Christmas decor, so it's time to start sharing! We didn't do as much as I normally do, but I was simultaneously unpacking our basement (which has been waiting for 9 months, whoops). I already have big plans for next year though! Custom Christmas lights for our exterior were on my list of things I wanted to do. However, we decided to wait til next year. Figuring out how to do those myself is going to be so fun and I'll definitely show you guys the process when the time comes! But for now, let's enjoy the simple things of Christmas and I'll share all about our Minimalist Modern Christmas Tree Decor.
Minimalist Modern Christmas Tree Decor
We got a brand new tree this year from King of Christmas, the pre-lit 8' King Noble Fir. I absolutely adore it! It has that gorgeous open airy vibe of a tree you'd find out in the middle of the forest! I also love that it comes with a remote and the ability to set a timer with the remote!
We always do 2 trees, one that I get to decorate however my heart desires. Then we always cut down a real tree that the kids have complete creative control over (which is my absolute fav!). We ended up putting our tree in the dining room. If you follow me on Instagram, you saw me move it around my house like 3 times trying to find the perfect spot, haha! But the dining room ended up being perfect! It brought some Christmas coziness into a room that is mostly window so I couldn't add a whole lot of decor anyways.
Battery-Operated Candles on a Christmas Tree
These candles are my absolute favorite addition to our Christmas Tree. I've always wanted to use them, but never pulled the trigger. There are more affordable options for candles. However, I ended up going with these because of how realistic the wick looks. Instead of a plastic globe-type thing, it's small and on a bendable wire making it look much more like a real candle!
Minimalist Christmas Ornaments
For the Christmas Ornaments on this tree, I definitely took a minimalist approach. I used simple ornaments that weren't over the top. The faux stone ornaments I made a few years ago worked perfectly with this whole design, so we used these again! Then I just used some neutral-colored balls and a few Christmas Stems I grabbed at Hobby Lobby.
Tying Ribbon on a Christmas Tree
This was another thing I've seen done but never actually done myself until this year. Normally I will weave some ribbon strands in the tree to make it look like it's going around the tree, but because this tree is so airy I didn't feel like that would have the same effect. Instead, I opted to tie little velvet strips of ribbon on the ends of the branches. To tie these I just started off like how you tie a shoe, but before I did the bow part I wrapped it around the bottom of the branch and tied it again making a square knot and making sure to keep the velvet side out. This really added a fun textural element for me and a little bit of interest!

I think your minimalist tree is perfect. One year I just had lots of little white lights on my tree and loved it while other years I have done a elaborate stylized tree and loved that too. That is the magic of Christmas decorating. Have a beautiful Christmas.
