I just shared with you yesterday my top 20 projects from 2014, and after the results of the reader survey I posted a few days back I have decided that not only am I going to start doing more of what I LOVE the most, but also what YOU guys want to see more of and that is building plans. But like I said yesterday... building is a little difficult in the winter here because I don't have a heated workspace, but I will do my best to get done what I can in these frigid temperatures. We had a rather warm December so I was able to get this DIY Crate Storage Unit built : )

I was so excited when Ryobi asked me to join in with this fun campaign for getting organized this year! You all know I am a big fan of Ryobi tools, and this January they have teamed up with Crates and Pallets and a few other bloggers to give you some ideas on getting organized!
I built this little storage unit for my daughters room and all her drawing things. That little girl colors all day long and we are drowning in paper and crayons! So she needed a place to keep it all! I left a little space above the drawers for her to store her papers! She also keeps some in the drawers along with all her other stuff. It's so cute to watch her organize everything! But I have to say, the best thing about this crate storage unit is that because it's on wheels when you turn it around... it's a chalkboard.
DIY Crate Storage Unit
The casters and chalkboard are totally optional. You can leave the back open if you prefer and I suggest not using the casters if you will be putting it on carpet, just because it's taller than it is wide.
Crystal
Love the storage unit!!! Thanks so much for the plans 🙂
Katie
Thanks so much Crystal! Addison is having so much fun with all her little drawers, lol.. I think she's more organized than I am! Have a great weekend ; )

Glenda Cates
This is such a cute ideal and my son loves to draw and build so I am going to see if Charlie and his dad will make three of these one for Charlies Art Supplies and one for his small toys like mini Robots and things and one for my office and all the paper work I end up with from the events and blog reviews I do. So I am so happy I found you from a blog hop and can not wait to return and see some more of the items you have made or will make.
Katie
Thanks so much Glenda! I hope they work out great for you! Would love to see pics of how yours turns out : ) Let me know if you have any questions! Have a great weekend !

I really liked these tips. It can be hard to get rid of clutter. That is probably one of the things that I struggle with the most. However, I really want to have a home that looks clean. The only way I can think of doing that is by figuring places to store my extra stuff.
Veronika Dalton
This is so creative! And I love how the back has chalkboard paint too. I can't wait until my toddler is old enough to appreciate this kind of thing.
Rob Benton
Self storage units hit the spot when you're moving. It's nice to sometimes drop your stuff off at one. You can always pick it up later.
Ginny
I really love the storage units. I was looking for some ideas on how to re-use some of my crates and I think the idea of a storage unit is perfect. Thanks for sharing this project.

Emily @ The Benson Street
Ok I just love crates and this project! Thanks for sharing at the Monday Funday Link Party. Emily @ The Benson Street.
Kelsey
I just discovered this post on the Link Party Palooza over at Tater Tots & Jello. I love this project, and the combination of rustic wood and metal with the clean white storage boxes. Where are those white boxes from?
Thanks for sharing!
Katie
Thanks os much Kelsey! They are actually bare wooden crates that I painted, I got them from Home Depot : )
Vineta @ The Handyman's Daughter
OMG, I love this! The chalkboard on the back is genius! My son is really getting into making his own comics, so our house is always covered with paper and drawing materials. This would be a great way to contain them all, if only I could get him to put everything away when he's done. Pinned!
Faith Cooper
Wonderful beat! Thank you for the good write up.
