Can you believe we are officially in Fall. It's no longer just us crazy blogging people talking about pumpkins. It's not summer anymore, it's Fall! And today we are finishing off our Fall Design Series talking all about Outdoor Fall Decor! If you have missed out on some of our posts, you can check out our previous topics: Textiles, Home Decor, and Art.

Tips for a Cozy Fall Outdoor Space
I have to be totally honest, I don't actually have a lot of experience when it comes to decorating outdoor spaces. For some reason we've just never had a finished space to work with until this year! But I've been on Pinterest long enough and done quite a bit of research to share some tips with you. Plus I did decorate my porch for Halloween already (more on that soon)!
Pumpkins
Pumpkins are just a must when it comes to outdoor decor in the Fall! This is the first year I've been able to do a full blow Fall porch. I actually just finished taking the picture for our Halloween Porch so I'll give you a sneak peek of how we used pumpkins on our steps!
For some reason I'm really drawn to the orange pumpkins this year. I think 2020 has been crazy enough I'm just subconsciously seeking some traditional comfort! I was able to decorate my in-laws house porch a few years ago and I used pumpkins there as well!
My Favorite Places to buy Real Pumpkins
- Grocery Stores
- Pumpkin Patch
- Roadside Stands
- Trader Joes', Fresh Thyme, and other small stores
Mums
Another must have for your outdoor decor is Mums. They are the most popular Fall potted flowers ever. You can literally find them in front of any grocery store this time of year! And for good reason! They are absolutely gorgeous and provide such a cozy feeling to any space!
Where to find good deals on Mums:
- Local Nurseries
- Home Depot
- Meijer
Cozy Lighting
Now that we are past the obviously ideas for Fall Outdoor Decor let's move on to one of my favorites - lighting. Nothing says cozy like a properly lit space. We recently hung some cafe lights on our front porch and the warm glow it creates paired with pumpkins and mums is the perfect way to enjoy a warm drink in the evenings while taking in the smells of all things pumpkin spice! But you don't necessarily have to hang lights. You can do something as simple as putting a few lanterns on your porch.
Shop Lighting Options:
Out Door Throws and Blankets
I love keeping blankets and pillows outside. I have a covered porch so it's not a huge deal for me to leave them out there. If your outdoor spaces are more exposed to the elements you might consider getting a small deck box to keep some of your favorite textiles easily accessible.
I like to keep it neutral with outdoor accessories because that way you can use them throughout the different seasons and just accessorize with things like pumpkins and mums to rely on the seasonal aspect of the design. My suggestion would be to use darker neutrals for Fall and lighter neutrals for Summer and Spring. But that doesn't mean you have to do it that way. It's just one way to work with what you might have on hand!
Shop Outdoor Pillows and Throws:
Outdoor Wreaths
Wreaths kind of center the whole outdoor space. Especially if you are working on your front porch. And what better way to welcome a guest than a beautiful festive wreath on your front door?
Shop Wreaths:
I made a modern leather wreath last year, but I'm also sharing some other options below if you prefer to purchase one!
