Take a tour of this simple Formal Dining Room Remodel. Keeping the decor simple allows this space to breathe using black accents and solid white curtains to provide an open feel!
Well I'm only a little bit late for the One Room Challenge, but hey... I did finish. And to be fair the ONLY thing I was waiting on was my light fixture. Through a series of not getting the right light, or receiving the light on time I totally missed the deadline. But it's done and that's the important thing! Typically I would've tried to find a different light that I could've gotten in time, but I really had my heart set on this one! It was the perfect blend of modern, yet slightly traditional that just fits this house! So here is our Simple Formal Dining Room! Let's take a tour!

Dining Room Reveal
Every time I go to share a room I struggle to name the style. I don't have a background in Interior Design so let's be honest... I'm just kind of winging it ;)! But to me this dining room has a modern feel with a traditional vibe. It's kind of funny sometimes how you have this whole plan for a space and it just kinda takes shape. As I started this whole living/dining combo remodel I really intended for blacks, whites, and grays. But at the end of the day it just wasn't in the budget to completely replace everything so I used what I had. (With the exception of the new couch and chair). It ended up much more brown than I anticipated, and I'm sure I'll make some adjustments along the way, however this is what I had and sometimes you just have to work with what you've got!
Simple Dining Room Decor
I didn't want to hang much on the walls, but just kind of let the windows speak for themselves! I think because we've been pretty much living in a construction zone for the last 15 or so months I'm just craving clean simple lines with zero clutter! Our lives I think very much dictate what we want our homes to represent! And I'm definitely looking to have some organization in my life!
Let's talk about the placement of this whole space. I kinda struggled to make this a dining room for about a year. It's quite a walk from the kitchen to get to this table and you have to go through the living room which just kind of messes with my OCD. But now that it's here I LOVE having it away from the kitchen. We've had a few dinners here and it's kinda nice to not be looking at the kitchen while we're eating. We still eat the majority of meals in our breakfast nook... but this is a welcomed change!
Black Accents
I'm still debating on putting a rug in here. My husband hates rugs under tables, and if I'm being totally honest I don't either, but from a design view I like how it breaks up the space and divides the wood floor from the wood table. Who knows... maybe I'll add something one day.
Formal Dining Room Before and After
Ok let's talk about what we did in this space. First I painted all the trim and walls. It was a TERRIBLE depressing color before and this is SO much brighter and cleaner feeling! Here's a before and after to really show the difference. I'm so happy with the white trim. It just makes a world of difference in this space!
We had already refinished the floors, so that alone made this space just so much cleaner looking! But then I hung a new light and curtain rods. The rest is just furniture placement. I still have to install the quarter round... shh... don't tell though!

I love the elegant simplicity in here. You could add a bit of color with wall art and a couple of print pillows, instead of the rug. The vase is very beautiful, too. A very pretty room. (:
