I'm almost done with my Christmas decorations this year and I'm so ready to check it off my list. I always try to finish everything up at the very first of December so I can sit back and enjoy my family. We did have fun with this tree though. I set my mama fears aside and let my kids use a needle to make this homemade popcorn garland that is my favorite part of the tree. They didn't last long, but they loved what little bit they did get accomplished, and I'm proud to say I think I poked myself more times than they did : ) Sometimes it's best to just let them experience something that you are afraid to let them do... they will surprise you! So here is our Old Fashioned Rustic Christmas Tree!
This isn't too far of a stretch from last year's tree, but I did make some changes. This year I used strips of plaid flannel fabric for some garland. It's subtle, but I love the affect it gives. The popcorn garland is my focal point. I have always wanted to make this and it has just never happened. Surprisingly my youngest hasn't tried eating it yet, but who are we kidding.... my almost 7 year old will probably be the first to attempt that!
I decided to put my Christmas Tree in the dining room this year. Our youngest is 16 months and we like to keep him and his toys in the living room sometimes, so I figured it had less of a chance of being completely destroyed in here, but I have to say I am loving it in here. I think it might always find it's home in our dining room! I asked my husband if we could just leave it up year round because I have no clue what to do with this corner once it's gone. This room is a little awkward, I think technically it is like a family room/dining combo, but it's not really big enough for that unless you have a 2 person table.... so I decided to just make it a dining room since our living room is plenty spacious. Well... now it's a really big dining room. I used to have my desk there, but I never planned on keeping it there. Decisions decisions. For now that, I'll just enjoy the tree and worry about the rest later. : )
We have a buffet right next to the tree and it left a weird space between that and the tree, so I decided it needed a chair. My kids broke this one a while back, but it has a new job, being pretty and holding presents. I'm always a last minute wrapper so no gifts under the tree yet, but the chair is ready! The adorable pillow you see is from Lucy at Craftberry Bush. She is super talented and I love everything she creates!
I handmade a lot of the ornaments this year. You can find the tutorials for them in the 12 Days of Christmas Ornaments Series I participated in.
