Have you been wanting to Plan a Day Trip? With these simple tips you will feel confident and prepared for your next daytime adventure!

Travel is something I have been longing for. We got married very young and immediately started having kids. Now that our kids are getting older I want to go to all the places. I mean obviously I can't go everywhere because there is the issue of budget, but I do want to travel with my kids. This is one of the reasons we decided to start homeschooling our kids after all. Travel doesn't always have to be packing suitcases and buying plane tickets though. Sometimes you just need a day trip to scratch the travel itch. Let's talk about a few ways to Plan a Day Trip successfully.
How to Plan a Day Trip
Check the Weather
To me this is one of the most important things to check before I plan a day trip. I'm definitely not saying, don't go if it's raining. A little rain never hurt anyone, but if you don't like traveling in the rain, that would be great to know ahead of time right? If you're feeling adventurous you'll also know how to dress everyone if there is inclement weather! Nobody is happy when they are uncomfortable, I can assure you that!
Dress Appropriately
I know this kind of goes alongside the weather, but clothing is VERY important when traveling! You don't want to be too cold, too hot or end up carrying excess clothing around! For our most recent day trip to Door County it was a little chilly. I wore my hemp Cozy Up Sweatshirt paired with the hemp Heavana Pocket Leggings from prAna. These two items have become my new favorite pieces to wear! They're made from hemp which makes them extremely comfortable. Did you know hemp doesn’t require any chemical pesticides or fertilizers, which makes it’s safer for the farmers that grow it as well as the land it’s grown on. As somebody with extremely sensitive skin I very much appreciate this fact!
Once hemp is processed into fabric, it resembles linen in a lot of ways. It’s lightweight and remarkably breathable. It washes well, and because we blend ours with other materials like organic cotton, recycled polyester, and spandex, it doesn’t wrinkle as much as linen does.
If you know me, you know I'm all about being comfy everywhere I go. And being comfortable during travel is even more important because I don't want to be adjusting my pants every time I hike up a step. Also.... comfortable shoes are a must! Just sayin ; )
Create a Packing List
I know it's only a day trip and you will be coming home after all your adventures, but you still need to make sure you have what you need! I don't go anywhere without my photography equipment, because I love taking pictures. You might not want to do this specifically, but everyone has something that want with them on a trip. Make sure you're prepared for whatever activities you have planned! Even more important than my photography equipment is water. Always make sure you have our own supply in case you can't find any wherever you are going!
Take a Few Minutes to Plan a Route
I'm a very impulsive person and even if I make a plan we almost always diverge from it a little bit! However, it's nice to have a plan of action, especially if you are going somewhere you haven't been before. If you're traveling with kids you definitely don't want to end up lost and driving in circles if you can help it.
Set a Budget
A simple day trip can add up quickly, especially if you don't know the cost of food. If you're going to a touristy area, maybe consider packing a picnic to help reduce food costs. At the very least look at a few restaurants in the area to get an idea of what it will cost to eat there. Know how much you will spend on gas and activities and try to stay in your scope! Like I said, we are pretty impulsive, so if you know that about yourself make room for that in the budget!
Enjoy Your Time
Last but not least, enjoy every single second! Don't get too caught up in making everything perfect. The joy of a day trip is, it's ok to make mistakes. You didn't drop thousands on this trip so let your self mess up. Sometimes you find the best things because of your biggest mistake! Now Plan a Day Trip and get some practice!!!
