Laser Cut
Pull the file into your laser cutter software and cut.
I used a 3mm MDF, but this file can be resized and cut with any thickness or material.
Paint
I like to tape the pieces down to a table covered with paper to prepare for painting.
The tape holds the pieces so I don't get paint all over my fingers, and the paper protects my table.
I group them by color.
The circular base is painted blue, and I painted it with a sponge brush.
I paint the other pieces with makeup sponges. I like to use cosmetic sponges because they are cheaper than sponge brushes, but they don't work great for large areas.
Let the pieces dry completely before moving on to the next step.
Assemble
The design was engraved onto the base, so I knew where to place my pieces.
Apply the pieces to the base using wood glue. I used a paintbrush to apply the glue for the smaller pieces so there wouldn't be as much excess.
It looks so cute when all of the pieces are glued in place!
Add the Hanger
The sign can be left as is, but I want to hang it on my front door, so it needs a hanger.
Cut a length of ribbon about a foot long and tie each end in a knot.
Loop the ribbon and place it in the center of the back. (Make sure you're hanging the sign in the right direction.)
Apply a glue line to the popsicle stick and place it over the ribbon above the knotted ends.
Let the glue dry completely before hanging.
Final Thoughts
This round wood sign turned out so cute!
I think you need one to hang on your own door! It's much better than a wreath.
Laser Essentials
- Are you new to laser machines? I highly suggest the xTool M1 Ultra! This machine is super easy to learn and helps you create beautiful projects!
- Are you more experienced with lasers and want more power? I love my OmTech 50W, but they have all types of machines up to 150W!
- Craft Closet is my favorite shop for laser materials. Their products are high-quality, and they have the lowest price I can find anywhere!
- If you really want to get into lasers, I highly suggest you learn how to create your own files. Pen & Posh has a great course for this.
