Make a travel Lego box storage kit to keep kids entertained on trips. Easy to build, portable, and perfect for creative play on the go.

Not everyone needs a travel box storage setup, but my nephew definitely did, he's got a full-blown Lego obsession.
I ended up making one for him and one for my son, figuring it might keep them both entertained (and maybe even sitting still).
These little boxes are fun to make, easy to customize, and perfect for road trips, waiting rooms, or just keeping all those tiny bricks in one place instead of underfoot.

Instructions
The inspiration for my boxes came from Finely and Oliver, and I thought I could make those!
I did mine, with only slight differences, but for the basic tutorial, you can check out the one I linked to above.
The box I used came from Hobby Lobby, but I checked on a recent trip, and they no longer sell these exact boxes, but any kind of wood box with a flat lid should work.
Instead of painting the box, I used Mod Podge to adhere the fabric to the wood box.
Any wood areas that the fabric doesn't cover, I painted with craft paint to match the fabric.
You can cut a builder plate down to the size you need to fit on top of your box, and then glue it on top.
Final Thoughts
This box actually holds quite a few Legos!
I can't wait for my nephew to get his, so the boys can play together with their travel Lego boxes.
I'm hoping it will keep them busy for at least an hour. 🤞

This is great! I love how you added the lego plate to the top so it not only stores legos but provides a space to play! If you ever come up with a solution to keep legos from falling in between the car seats let me know. I dismantled my back seat just yesterday in search of a Boba Fett's head 🙂

Katie
HAHA, My sister would love it if there was a plan to keep them out of the car, lol! I don't let Aubrey take them in the car because my daughter will get them and put them in her mouth, but we still end up with some in the car, lol

Love this idea! What makes the boxes latch and the legos not fall out?
Katie
Thanks so much Jill! There is a magnet that keeps it latched, of course my son broke his already, lol! My sister's son is a lot more careful with his toys : )
Cariann
What a great idea. We have a couple of road trips coming up and I think I have a couple of old cigar boxes in my craft stash that I can use.
Katie
Thanks so much Cariann! They are so much fun for the kids, I'd love to see how yours turns out : )
Beth
You are an awesome aunt. What a great gift. I can see these boxes getting bigger and bigger. LOL! My boys had both situations; some legos were kept separately because they built a certain project, others went into the big bin for creative play. I have a few posts about lego creating, from when my kids were a tad younger. They still have their legos though.
Katie
Thanks so much Beth! They really have a blast with this. So glad you stopped by : ) Enjoy your day!
