Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and I have a fun little craft for you today! These DIY Floral Candles are the perfect gift to give or you might even decide to keep them for yourself ; )

To make these Floral Candles, I used various sizes of metal tins from Paper Mart and some essential candle-making supplies. Candles are surprisingly easier to make than you might think, and they don't take very long at all! Paper Mart sells tons of amazing products for crafting, and at excellent prices. They have everything you need for every holiday on the calendar!
Once I had made the Floral Candles, I decorated them using Red Gingham Washi Tape, White Jute Cord, and Kraft Tags from Paper Mart.
Not only are these candles great for Valentines Day Gifts, but they can easily be customized for any holiday or occasion.
Supply List
- Metal Tins
- Red Gingham Washi Tape
- White Jute Cord
- Kraft Tags
- Soy Candle Wax Flakes
- Wood Candle Wicks
- Hot Glue Gun
- Empty Aluminum Can
- Tongs
- Fresh Flowers
- Essential oils (Optional)
Instructions
Begin by filling an empty aluminum can with the Wax Flakes. Place it in a pot of water, heat the water to boiling, and then reduce to a simmer until the wax is completely melted. It will end up looking like olive oil.
While the wax is melting prepare your metal tin containers by hot gluing the wick to the bottom so they stay put while pouring the melted wax.
Once the wax is melted, use tongs (because it will be really hot), pour it into the metal tins, and then add a few petals from your fresh flowers.
Let that harden, and then add more fresh flowers and just barely cover them with more wax. Essentially you are creating layers of wax with fresh flower petals mixed in. I also added about 6 drops of lavender essential oil to give it a nice smell, but this is optional.
Do this 2 or 3 times until you have the wax almost to the top of the wick. Use different types of flowers for different looks.
I also used some heart confetti in my heart shaped tin for Valentines Day.
After the candles have hardened, you are ready to give them away! (Or keep them).
See, it's not difficult at all, right??
I can't wait to make some more for the different seasons. Next, I'm thinking of using dried lavender.
What would you put in your candles???

Thanks so much Tanya!

They look absolutely gorgeous. It is such a great idea for Valentine's day decor. How do they smell when petals are burning? Thank you!
Katie
The petals don't really seem to burn. They just kind of float around in the melted wax ; )

Do the flowers get icky after a while? Do you have to burn these right away, or will they stay nice for a bit? Thanks
Kimberly

Hi I also make soy wax candles with dried flowers on the top, some people are concerned that the flowers could catch fire! I have not had an issue with this as been burning my candles for iver a year now but, not sure if I should add flowers any more for this reason! What are your thoughts? Jen. ????.

Katie, these are so sweet, and such a great gift! Some Star Anise might look pretty for a fall season candle, huh? Visited today by way of Imparting Grace... Would love to have you join us over at Homestyle Gathering! Have a great weekend!

Hi, my candles will sometimes catch on fire I am assuming its from the hot glue as it heats up from the hot wax when the candle is lit. I've had couple do that.. I've also had issues with the wicks moving around when pouring the wax in it melts the glue.

It's too hot. That's whi it melts. Wait a bit before pouring.
