It's week 3 of the One Room Challenge. If you are just now tuning in, you can catch up and start at Week 1! I'm a little late this week because people decided to get sick, putting me on full-time mom duty. Everyone is all good now, so it's back to the bathroom!
Master Bathroom Curtains
I knew putting a giant window above our bathtub would create privacy issues. However, I knew I could create privacy. I just absolutely love the natural light shining in, which is opposite our mirrors creating a wonderful setting! I haven't done this yet, but I do intend to hang this cellular shade in the window. For now, we have just been keeping the curtains closed for privacy. The cellular shades actually let some decent light in (we have them in our closet and toilet room). I'll go with the top-down version so I can let some extra light in the top without sacrificing privacy. I feel like I will be especially thankful for this in the winter months!
Let's take a quick peek at one of the photos from last week. You can see the freestanding tub with no curtains, and how adding the curtains just creates this cozy, look making you feel like you are in a room, not a sterile bathroom.
And then here's what full-length curtains in a bathroom look like.
Our ceilings are 9' and I happened to have these dark gray/black velvet curtains from Ikea on hand and decided this was the perfect place for them. I went back and forth on these or a more natural-looking material, but ultimately I felt like the black curtains kind of balanced our extra tall vanity mirrors. Plus I had them on hand so I didn't have to spend extra money. I'm sharing some alternatives below if you don't have an Ikea near you.

Where to Hang Curtains
This has been a topic for years that interior designers share about all the time, but just in case, here's a little tip. Hang the curtains as high as you can. These are 98" curtains and we hung them so that they just sit a hair off the ground. Normally I like them to slightly touch the ground, but being behind a tub I wanted them up off the floor. plus you can't really see anyways.
By hanging the curtains high it creates the illusion that the room and windows are taller. If you hang them just righ above the window it looks shorter and disproportionate to the space, especially if you have taller ceilings.
Choosing a Curtain Rod for Bathroom Curtains
Once you've picked out your curtains, you'll need to decide on a curtain rod. I have been purchasing these for years. They are affordable, simple, easy to hang, and look great. Plus they are available in several different finishes.
We used these curtain hooks because they are compatible with our curtains. And then used these curtain rings to give the curtains a pleated look without the cost of custom drapery.
Bathroom Curtains
This week was a pretty simple addition to the space, and next week will be a little more involved. But sometimes it's just these smaller projects that can get you motivated and help you really finish out a space for a complete look.

I like what you did. Pulling the window treatment in with the tub hardware and complementary floor color gives a very elegant but understated feel. I do understand mine and your taste might not be for everyone but what you achieved with just a simple curtain gives a larger feel in a typically small room. Great job and love your renovation ideas.
