This fleece scarf DIY features hidden pockets kids love, making it a simple, warm, and playful winter project.

If you are looking for a fun project to keep little ones warm, this DIY fleece scarf is a great place to start.
It is perfect for boys who love pockets and need a spot to tuck their tiny treasure.
The fleece keeps you cozy in cold weather, and the secret pockets add a playful detail they'll get a kick out of.
This scarf is simple to make, practical to wear, and sure to be a winter favorite.
Skill Level: Beginner
Total Time: 30 minutes
Instructions
To start, decide the size you want the scarf to be.
I cut my fleece fabric to 33" x 9" and folded it in half lengthwise, right sides together.
If you want yours longer or wider, just make that adjustment.
Sew along one short side, and down the long side.
Turn the tube right side out, fold in the unfinished edges on the short side, and topstitch it closed.

To make the pockets, measure some fabric to the depth you want, and make sure that when you fold over your raw edges, they're the width of the scarf.
Fold over all four edges ⅝ inch and press.

Then stitch across the edge that will be the top of the pocket.
I added some zigzag stitches for a little decorative touch.

Place the pockets where you want them, and topstitch all the way around the edge of the scarf, catching the pockets on the sides.
While stitching around the edge of the whole scarf, I added a few zigzags just for fun!

Then go back and stitch across the bottom of each pocket.

That's it, you are done! Super easy, right?
Now I need to make some pink ones for my daughter!
Final Thoughts
I am not sure why my kids like to hide toys in their clothes, but for some reason, it has become a thing.
The tucked-away toys are often found when doing laundry. 😂
My son loves his new scarf, and I love that he can carry his treasure instead of them ending up in my purse.

This has to be one of the easiest scarves ever, and it is super easy to change the size to make it the perfect fit for your little one.

Fleece scarves are a must in cold temps. Im in NW PA and I cant survive a winter without one! Im actually giving away a scarf @ Planned in Pencil right now. Unfortunately it has no awesome secret pockets, but you'd still be more than welcome to sign up!

Really cute! My boys would get down with some hidden pockets. Maybe that's the key to getting them to wear a scarf! ha.

Oh I love this. I did folded up ends on a single layer of fleece for my nephew's scarf for him to tuck his hands into walking to and from school (SC- so not too cold but scarf is nice to have for a walker). I like the fabric pockets as they won't stretch as much...
Katie
Thanks Regina! So glad you like it! : ) have a great day!!

I think this is great! My kids have such a long bus ride that they like to take their dsi along and I'm always worried someone is going to steal it out of their back pack BUT I bet no one would think to look in their scarf!!! I will just make it a little sturdier with velcro to hold something a little heavier. Thanks for the great idea!! Oh! and it might be a good place to keep gloves when they take them off too.

Very cute. Love it!

Adorable! I love projects for BOYS...they are few and far between!
Katie
Thanks! I know... it really is so hard to come up with boy things. I've got a few more up my sleeve for the little man though : )

Hi! I'm from Texas and I totally get it. Fleece just seemed like the worst fabric choice here, but for a week or so of the year. I have family in IL and IN, so I can see how WI might cause you to reevaluate that! 🙂 Looks cute - but being that we are staying in TX, I"m not making them this year unless H-e-double-hockey-sticks freezes over. 🙂

Hey would you mind stating which blog platform you're working with? I'm looking
to start my own blog soon but I'm having a hard time deciding between BlogEngine/Wordpress/B2evolution and Drupal. The reason I ask is because your design seems different then most blogs and I'm looking for something unique.
P.S Apologies for being off-topic but I had to ask!

This is great scarf, love idea of it, think will make couple for granddaughters. They can carry their phones in scarves, will make a secure pocket on them. Think Grama might get one also. Like idea of this so much, fantastic project. Will start looking for pretty fleece to make them out of and pockets to match.
Happy summer days
