If you've got diapers and fabric, you've got burp cloths. This Cloth Diaper Burp Cloths tutorial makes sewing for babies fast, fun, and beginner-friendly.

Finally checked "make baby stuff" off my list-with these DIY cloth diaper burp cloths!
It's taken longer than expected (thanks, moving chaos), but I'm calling this a win.
If you're looking for a beginner-friendly sewing project that's actually useful, this one's a solid choice.
Whether you're stocking up for your own little one or whipping up a baby shower gift, these come together quickly and are way cuter than anything you'll find in a store.
Plus, I'll show you exactly how I turned basic cloth diapers and cotton fabric into something a lot more fun.

Instructions
Begin by washing your different fabrics and burp cloths. The burp cloths drastically change their shape after their first washing!
Measure the center strip of the cloth diaper, the width, and the length. This is where we will sew on the fabric.
This measurement can vary from package to package.
My measurement was about 5" x 16.5".
Add ½" in each direction so you have a little extra to turn under when sewing.
So I cut the fabric to 5.5" x 17".
Press the raw edge under about a ¼" and pin in place.
Center the pinned fabric on the cloth diaper and move the pins to go through the fabric and diaper.
Use white thread in the bobbin, so you don't see it on the underside of the burp cloth.
Sew around the edge of the fabric. Try to keep pretty close to the folded edge so you catch what you pressed under.
You can use a straight stitch or a decorative stitch to make them even more special!
Final Thoughts
Once you get on a roll, these burp cloths come together really quickly, and they are so cute!
Fabric-lined burp cloths make a great gift for new moms and are easy to customize with any theme or gender.
Additionally, the cloth diapers are nice and thick, allowing them to absorb a significant amount of liquid when needed. (And they will be needed 😆 )
More DIY Ideas for Baby
There is so much to do when having a baby, but taking time to make something for the baby helps you make time for yourself at the same time!
Here are a few ideas.

These are awesome! I love the prints! I saw that camera fabric at Hobby Lobby and have been swooning over it, now you made me really want to buy some, it's just so cute!!
Katie
Thanks Heidi! I know that fabric is awesome! It was my inspiration for my nursery... as soon as I saw it, it had to be somewhere in there : ) It's really soft after you wash it too!!
Erica
What is the name of the camera fabric? I love it!
Katie
I'm not sure the name of it, but it is a Hobby Lobby exclusive. Sadly it is no longer available.
Katie
These are too cute! I love them and I know Adam really appreciates them 😉

These are adorable Katie!! Even the pictures are adorable! Thanks for the obvious tip about using white bobbin thread - so simple yet I had never thought of that!
Katie
Thanks Katie. Funny thing... I just decided not to change the bobbin thread out of laziness, then I realized it was better that way... I didn't give it any thought either ; ) I guess being lazy can have it's ups hehe : )

Hi, Start sewing around the edge, try to stay pretty close to the folded edge so you make sure to catch what you pressed under. I even used a fancy stitch on the ones with the camera fabric. I thought it just made it a little extra special. : )

I finally finished my first baby project. You wouldn’t believe how long it is taking me with all this moving and our closing getting pushed back. But it.is.happening. Slowly but surely!
