I can't believe my little boy is starting preschool. It is so.weird! He's starting to grow up and I'm not completely happy about this! I wanted to keep him a tiny little boy forever! It's not even Kindergarten yet and I'm freaking out... I wonder how next year will go : )
Naturally I want to document each step of his life and this is a big one, so I have plans to take pictures each year on his first day of school. I'll probably change it up a bit for each new grade, but this was what I came up with for his preschool.
A little chalkboard to show off his first day of preschool.
I had a lot of fun ideas for pictures that I wanted to share with you today, but I'm pretty sure if my son hates anything, it's getting his picture taken.
I wish I could say he sat there cute and sweet, but no....
he growled
screamed
jumped up and down
tickled himself
shut his eyes
wouldn't hold the sign
spun in circles

So what you see is pretty much a miracle.
He does however like to help mommy spray paint!!
This was the main picture I was going for though. I want to document his favorite stuff throughout his school years so I used photoshop elements to add some text to the picture.
If you don't have a photo editing program, don't worry, you can do it at places like picmonkey or ipiccy. It's super easy!
Now let's take a look at how I made my chalkboard.
{Supplies}
- I lucked out and ordered these cute little wooden shapes from Pick Your Plum a while back
(but you can get some cute shapes at hobby lobby.... or if you aren't afraid of your saw you could cut some out yourself! Maybe even recruit the hubs to help!)
- Chalkboard Spray paint
- Chalk
That's it!
{Tutorial}
first.
Spray paint your wood with your chalkboard paint. I made sure to get it good and covered. You don't want to be able to see any wood through your layer of paint. Also you want to make sure you don't spray too much in one spot or it will puddle up. Spray nice clean lines and go over it if you need to. (follow the instructions on the spray paint).
second.
Then Let it dry (super hard stuff right?) It might look a little funny while it's drying, that's ok.
third.
cover it completely with chalk then wipe it clean. Then you are good to go and write whatever info you want on it!
