Welcome to The Friday 5, a new blog series where I will share all my favorites with you! Every week will be a little different to keep things fresh and fun!
Today is the start of something new. Not because I've done extensive planning, or because I've been thinking of doing this for a year and I'm finally releasing it. But because I need something. I need the motivation to keep going. Balancing work and family is not always easy and sometimes I want easy. So on a whim, I am starting a new series here on the Friday Favs blog. I will be sharing everything from my favorite moments, favorite new finds, and favorite new IG accounts. I haven't quite decided on everything but I will definitely be changing it up every week to keep things fresh! I'll even share some of your favs so make sure and follow along on IG for some potential quizzes and questions! Let's Get Started!
No. 1: My Current Fav Project
Hands down my favorite thing I'm working on right now is our yard. Mostly because we live in Wisconsin and the summers are so short and I just want to spend all my time outside. I recently shared our landscaping plans we did with Tilly Design which has me super excited to get totally in to that project! Because I am able to see the digital images and fly through video I can easily imagine our family out there enjoying this space. We spoke with our concrete contractor a few days ago and got everything marked up and fingers crossed the weather cooperates and he can be out here in a couple of weeks so we can get our grass in!
Our backyard will definitely be done in phases. This year our goal is concrete, grass, and a few trees. I've been told landscaping next to your house should really wait at least a year to allow that dirt to fully settle. That way after you plant it doesn't drop down and mess up your grading to keep water away from your foundation. Which puts us doing most of our landscaping next Spring. Another project at the top of my list for next Spring is our garden area! You can see all the details in this post, but here's a photo! I have always wanted a garden that will provide me everything I need to make a salad, and we are finally staying in a house long enough to make that happen!
No 2: The Best Smelling Face Wash
Last year I was really good about a skincare routine, and then I think we moved and then jumped a few rentals while building and I just kind of fell of that train. I absolutely love those products, but I switched back to one of the first clean beauty face washes I used because my daughter loves the smell, and let's be honest... it smells like fresh squeezed strawberries on your face. The best part is that it's all clean ingredients!
No 3. Favorite New Find
Ok, so I know I said the yard was my favorite current project... but I'm working on so many different spaces just trying to get everything functional. I just bought this hanging drying rack and it was delivered a few days ago. I cannot wait to unbox it and get it installed in our laundry room right over my folding counter. I'll be sure to share everything once I get around to opening the box!
No 4. A New Fav IG Account
Instagram was a huge inspiration for me while we were building and during that time I ran across this account - LT Homes. The image below is how I came across their account while I was trying to find an example of a marble backsplash with a ledge and a plaster hood. I had mocked it up several times, but it always helps when you can find something in real life that is what you're envisioning. Give them a follow because their feed is gorgeous!
No 5. Favorite Past Project
As I designed the bones of this house and now I'm working on pulling it all together with furniture and acessories I find myself looking back over my previous spaces and I can't get over how my style has changed over the years. I hope I never stop changing and evolving as a designer, but I do finally feel like I've found a look that is "me" and I can't wait to start sharing the spaces with you! But let's take a look back at one of my favorite spaces to date: My Daughter's Bedroom. I think this is one of my favorites because it is what pushed me to go outside of my comfort zone. I don't love color on walls, and I really worked with her to give her the space she wanted. It was a first for me and I'll always cherish this bedroom!
