How to Make an Easy Christmas Tree Skirt

Make a beautiful Handmade Christmas Tree Skirt with fabric and a glue gun! Below is the complete step by step tutorial.

Do you love Christmas too? I absolutely love Christmas and am even listening to Christmas music as I write this post.

This year I decided to update our old and ugly Christmas Tree Skirt into a beautiful ruffled tree skirt!

It was actually very easy to do and no sewing machine needed. A hot glue gun is used and I love the results!

The inspiration for my skirt came from this Christmas Tree Skirt I found on Pinterest. This skirt was made by Puttin On The Grits.

Easy Christmas Craft Tutorials:

Since we love Christmas here at The Crafty Blog Stalker, we have lots of Christmas Craft Tutorials! Like this Tassel Tree Decor, this Snowflake Gatefold Cards, and this 3D Reindeer Decoration.

Be sure to look around the blog for more easy Christmas crafts!

Supplies You’ll Need to Create this Project:

This post contains affiliate links.

  • Old Tree Skirt as the base
  • 4 yards of Fabric (more or less depending on the size of your tree skirt)
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Glue Gun Sticks

This is the old tree skirt we used as the base for our new ruffle Christmas tree skirt. It is very plain and not very cute.

a used red velvet tree skirt

This is the fabric we chose for the skirt. I am a sucker for chevron and the green and red will make a great Christmas skirt.

How to Make an Easy Christmas Tree Skirt:

I found it easiest to work on the floor but make sure everything needed is within arms reach.

Cut the fabric into 3 inch wide strips.

Start at the outer edge of the skirt. Apply a small line (about 1 1/2 inches) of hot glue. Lay the top edge of the fabric along the line of glue. Take about 1 inch of fabric and fold it over the previous section and add a dot of glue to secure in place.

Repeat around the entire skirt. Alternate the colors of chevron fabric but if you are using one solid color you don’t need to worry about alternating patterns.

Here is the finished Christmas Tree Skirt! Isn’t this a huge improvement from the old ugly one we were using?

Our Crafting Essentials List:

  • So many of our crafts use a Cricut Machine, this is by far, my favorite tool! And there are different machines to choose from to fit every budget.
  • Sharp scissors are a must, and these Precision Edge Scissors are the best.
  • Keep your supplies and projects organized with these Stackable Storage Baskets.

I love the Christmas tree skirt! It is so pretty. I can’t even begin to imagine how much hot glue that took! Also, am I reading that right, it only took you about 1.5 yards of fabric? That is amazing. So Pretty!

What a great way to revamp an old skirt! I know I always buy a skirt then start disliking it in few years, and want to try something different. The no-sew aspect just makes it better 🙂

It hasn’t frayed a lot, but honestly I am ok if it frays because it will add to the look. You could use pinking shears if your were worried about the frying or hem the strips of fabric before you glue them around the skirt.

    Hi Katie,

Your new skirt looks amazing! Truly beautiful. I must ask, how much glue did you use? I would guess this wasn’t the frugal option – to no sew it, that is.

I love the look and am looking forward to giving it a try… but with my sewing machine instead 🙂
