I love to make yummy treats and savory food in the fall – There are so many occasions that we get to enjoy these – like:
- Our schools fall bake sale – I love to make treats for this!
- Pumpkin carving with the kids – we usually put on some fun Halloween music and have yummy treats to snack on.
- Halloween – As a tradition we have a hot bowl of yummy soup while we watch Thriller as a family – then we go Trick or Treating. When we come home we warm up with some Hot Chocolate or Hot Caramel Apple Cider
- Thanksgiving – I love this time to get together with family – depending on what I am assigned to bring I love to go all out on whatever I am preparing.
- Black Friday – My husband love to go shopping on Black Friday. Afterwards we always stop for a donut and hot chocolate or juice.
There are just some of the many activities we love do in the fall. Here are some of my favorite and easy recipes:
Fall M&M Rice Krispie Treats
Sometimes we are invited last minute to a fall activity – when that happens I always whip up a batch of these because they are quick and set fast.
Ingredients:
1/2 Medium Package of Fall Colored Milk Chocolate M&M’s (more or less depending on how much you want)
3 Tbsp. Butter
4 Marshmallows
6 12 cups Rice Krispie cereal
Prep a 13×9 inch baking dish – lightly grease/spray the sides with something like Pam.
In a microwave safe bowl melt your 3 Tbsp. butter (this takes 20 to 30 seconds). Add all 40 marshmallow’s to microwave save bowl and stir until all marshmallows are covered with butter.
Microwave for 45 seconds and stir. Microwave another 45 seconds then stir in the cereal and Fall M&M’s. Mix until everything is coated then pour into your 13×9″ baking dish. Let sit until cool. The longer they sit the more they set up but it should only take around an hour to set up.
We love the taste of M&M’s in our rice krispie treats and depending on the time of year I trade out for different color M&M’s.
Another recipe we enjoy around here is Hot Caramel Apple Cider
Ingredients:
Mott’s Apple Juice (64 ounce bottle or 1/2 a gallon)
1 orange – sliced
2 whole cloves
1/4 tsp. All Spice
2 Cinnamon Sticks
1/2 cup Caramel Sauce (Not Pictured – I like to use Caramel ice cream topping)
Whipped topping (not pictured)
I like to make this in the crock pot so people can grab the cider as they want – the crock pot keeps it warm.
Pour Mott’s Apple Juice into Crock pot. In a cheesecloth put the sliced oranges and spices. If you can’t find a cheesecloth you can use a coffee filter – just tie off with some butcher string.
Place your oranges/spices into the apple Juice. Cook for 2 hours remove then remove the oranges/spices. Stir in 1/2 of caramel sauce until dissolved. Keep on warm so people can serve themselves as needed.
I like to top the cider off with whipped cream and drizzle on some caramel – yum!
I always like to serve these with some Pie Crust cookies – these are super easy to make
Roll out some pie crust dough – brush with butter- sprinkle with cinnamon & sugar – cut into strips – Bake 10 minutes at 400 degrees.

Ok so I love your idea of using a coffee filter if you don’t have cheesecloth for the spiced cider! These are fun fall goodies! Makes me excited for Fall for sure!

Thanks Amber – I was wondering my store and couldn’t find the cheesecloth where I thought it should be and the coffee filter idea just seemed to make sense. 🙂
