This large necklace is super simple to create and definitely makes a statement. This is a great necklace to add to your own jewelry collection.
Jewelry Making Supplies:
You don't need to visit a craft store for this DIY project. The ponytail holders I used came from a discount store, they were only $1. WAHOOO!
All they had were the holders with the big beads and I was a little worried that they would be too big, but they were perfect!
The package of Ponytail Holders came with 12, but I only used 8 for this big necklace.
You could easily make these DIY necklaces in lots of cool colors. There are some great options on Amazon.
Instructions:
The first thing to do is to cut the beads off of the elastic bands.
To decide the length, drape the ribbon around your neck, and adjust until you like the length. Then cut the ribbon a couple inches longer.
About ⅓ way down the ribbon, tie a knot. String a smaller 8mm bead on the longer end till it is tight up against the knot.
You need the smaller bead because the hole on these balls is quite large and it would slip right over the knot.
Then start stringing the ponytail beads. I did 2 black, 2 clear black, 2 white, 3 clear, 2 white, 2 clear black, and 2 black.
Since the holes in these beads aren't directly in the center, the beads alternate nicely.
Add the small mm bead at the end and tie the ribbon in a knot again.
Drape the whole necklace around your neckline and tie a bow with the ends at the desired length.
This bold statement necklace came together really quickly and it was so much fun to make!
I wore my finished necklace to church and had several compliments. They were amazed when I told them what I made it out of.
